I found networking  in the private group very useful and in particular I learned how to network with different people in different countries.

My main problem before joining the Association was being able to show my resume to employers. I couldn’t get it into the hands of anyone. I didn’t know how to tailor my resume either. I was really excited once I joined as I was getting in touch with many people from around the globe. I was learning how to apply to positions in different countries. The group was very diverse! I quickly learned how to improve my LinkedIn profile and my resume. I found networking  in the private group very useful and in particular I learned how to network with different people in different countries. I got my job by responding to a job offer with my new resume and got a call back the next day. The private group helped me optimize specific things like the summary to my LinkedIn profile. I met many people who got jobs and their transition stories gave me confidence that I could get a job and showed me how. I tell everyone about the Association by saying it’s a very useful group by helping you understand how to improve your resume and your network. It’s very helpful. In my experience it really helps you psychologically as well.

Now I have a job lined up before even graduating. The organization is amazing.

Before joining I had no idea how to look for jobs in the United States as I’m from India and am a PhD student. I joined well before finishing my PhD because I knew I would be at a huge advantage in terms of looking for jobs and gaining the skills to land a position before I became desperate. Once I joined, the LinkedIn materials were incredible and I went through the material at my own pace in 2.5 months. At first I was worried because I wasn't sure there were other people like me (chemical engineers) in the group. Through the member directory and the private group, I was able to find many other engineers and I soon realised that it was even more valuable to network with others outside my own background. Now I have a job lined up before even graduating. The organization is amazing. You can network with members and go through the trainings step-by-step and have everything you need. With over 4,000 members now it’s an incredible resource.

It works 100% and is genuine.

Unlike many of the Associates, I had worked in industry before. I worked at Intel first but after 3 years on the job I wanted something different. The challenge I had was marketing my transferable skills. I was skeptical at first about the Association because the name sounded like a scam to me but after reading about Isaiah’s personal experience, I was motivated to join. Since then it has been a mind blowing experience. The modules covering the resume topics were awesome - I had a good resume but there were very important concepts I hadn't learned. The same with interviewing, concepts such as the STAR technique, were foreign to me. Learning about my transferable skills really helped me market myself to another industry. The Association taught me I do have transferable skills. The entire Salary Negotiation webinar was also very valuable. It’s a wonderful resource to help PhDs transition from academia into industry. It works 100% and is genuine.

It’s a program that changes your mindset from a limited academic mindset to a new, very open industry mindset.

Networking is very difficult in my country (Brazil). To network professionally you must be very, very professional. Before joining the Association, I wasn’t sure how to do this. The Association helped me visualize my end point and decide on the job that I actually wanted, which helped me start acting professional and start networking professionally. Figuring out what I wanted to do was the hardest part. I also needed help with the strategy of getting a job. I learned how to approach other industry professionals too. I just started my job as a Medical Science Liaison and during the onboarding process they are training us about industry and everything they are training us on I already learned in the CSA modules and webinars! It’s a program that changes your mindset from a limited academic mindset to a new, very open industry mindset. It’s a group of people that help you make a huge transformation both professionally and personally.

The Association is a collection of PhDs who are looking to break into industry and be something more than an underpaid researcher.

I was sending out resumes but not hearing anything back. There weren’t a lot of career fairs or career resources for chemical engineers. Things got worse when I got my PhD and when I did postdoc - it was like companies who came to the University were not interested. At that point, I decided to join the Association. My first reaction was: Holy! There is a lot of information! I quickly got organized and dug in. The private group is amazing - it brought all these people going through the same thing together. I realized I was not alone. It was very helpful. I had all of the credentials and was like why don’t companies see this but then I realized everyone had similar thoughts and sentiments and I learned how to do it with the transition stories as guidance and encouragement. The Association is a collection of PhDs who are looking to break into industry and be something more than an underpaid researcher. The group is a support system. It’s not like joining CSA is automatically going to get a job. Joining will get you access to a library but you still have to read the books.

It allows you to connect with other professionals from various fields and share solutions and challenges to overcome obstacles together.

I was interested in things outside of academia but didn’t know where to start or how to prepare a resume. I watched Cheeky Scientist on YouTube but was still not sure whether to join but at a certain point it felt like I needed to invest more in the learning process. I needed to strengthen my commitment to get ahead faster. I learned a lot - how to network, how to create a LinkedIn profile, how to follow up, and many other things. Whenever I needed an answer to a specific question, the private group was there to help me. The Association is a platform of growth and learning. It allows you to connect with other professionals from various fields and share solutions and challenges to overcome obstacles together.

The network of the program is like a net of people - if you fall, the Association will catch you.

I was having trouble expanding my network. I was just uploading my resume on a bunch a sites but hearing nothing back and it was stressing me out. I’m a very introverted person and there’s times I don’t want to talk to people (most of the time). But life is about relationships. If someone knows you, you’re more likely to get a referral. When I thought about joining the Association, I figured I had nothing to lose. The fact is, if you get a job even a few days sooner it will save you money, and you’re a lifetime member. Cheeky expanded my horizons of the value of a PhD. I learned the value of networking. The network of the program is like a net of people - if you fall, the Association will catch you. The Association gave me a lot of confidence. I feel like I’m in command now. I feel like even if things fell through with this job I could get a job “like that”. The program is a one stop shop for everything you need in terms of getting a job search. You can spend hours trying to gather the information that Cheeky has but you’ll never be able to find it or keep up. There’s so much information and such a great network.

Brian Panama, Ph.D.
Research Scientist, Cytocybernetics

The salary negotiation material really helped me because in the end I interviewed for 6 positions and got 4 offers.

Before I found Cheeky I knew that a postdoc was not right for me because of the pay. I had worked in industry so a postdoc felt like going backwards. I had an academic mindset for so long that I didn’t know how to put things into industry-speak. Everything needed a complete overhaul from turning my CV into a resume to getting my LinkedIn profile ready (my past profile was professional but not marketable in the job market). Listening to all of the videos and podcasts on careers and thinking about what was the best fit for me helped. The salary negotiation material really helped me because in the end I interviewed for 6 positions and got 4 offers. The salary I got for the job I wanted blew me away. It’s been a wild and exciting adventure with Cheeky Scientist. I received so much support from the Cheeky Team but also from the other Associates. I’m so grateful to you and don’t think I would have been here without Cheeky. The Association helps you reframe whatever your background expertise is to make it marketable for industry positions. You have the skills you need but you need to know how to leverage them and present them in industry terms, not academic terms. The business side of things run most companies, not the technical side of things. The end goal is not publications, it’s business growth.

I was really surprised with how proactive the group was. It made me feel like I was not alone and taught me that I could do business and I could be good at it. The group brightened my days.

When I joined the Association, I was battling old age and had no idea what else I could do with my PhD. I was actually afraid to look for a job. I have an engineering degree and didn’t think I could do anything else. Once I joined, I was totally blown away because the online dashboard had so much information. The most important thing though was the private online group. I was really surprised with how proactive the group was. It made me feel like I was not alone and taught me that I could do business and I could be good at it. The group brightened my days. I was in a very bad environment at work. Reading the transition stories also helped me. It was very powerful. I finally joined the Association during a week where I had to spend 80 hours in the lab - my family went on vacation and my advisor wouldn’t let me go. It was my Mother’s 60th Birthday party and I was alone in my lab. And those experiments that I did that week led to nothing! Cheeky Scientist is a group where people are trained to find a job but it’s more than this: it’s a community where people share a lot. You can meet people easily and work together to find a job.

Gad Sabbatier, Ph.D.
Industrial Research Associate, McGill University

Plus if I was having a dilemma, I could post my question and within minutes multiple people would contribute to help me solve the problem or to see things from a new perspective.

Before I joined the Association, I was uploading resumes and not leveraging LinkedIn. What got my attention about Cheeky Scientist is the camaraderie amongst members and everyone had their LinkedIn profile organized very well with a clear message. The private group was very valuable because I got feedback immediately. What I really liked about it was that I could have a bad day and vent my frustration to people who actually understood. Plus if I was having a dilemma, I could post my question and within minutes multiple people would contribute to help me solve the problem or to see things from a new perspective. If you want to transition out of your postdoc to an industry job, join the Association. I’ve recommend Cheeky Scientist to 15-20 people by now. The support and information is fantastic.

The program is dynamic adapts to fulfilling the members needs.

I moved from Argentina to the U.S. and wanted to work in industry but stay close to science. I started searching and found the Association online. I decided to join as I didn’t know where to start my job search. I had no idea how to tailor a resume or how to build a LinkedIn profile. Learning how to target my job search to a specific position was incredibly helpful for me. This included targeting my LinkedIn profile, my resume and my networking strategy. I learned how network on LinkedIn for the first time. The program is dynamic adapts to fulfilling the members needs.

You have what it takes to transition, but that little spark inside of you needs to be reignited and that’s what the Association does.

When I reached my 3rd year of my PhD I realized that I did not want my boss’s job. I started my job search but the advice I was getting from others was not well structured and was half-baked and very naive. The help I was getting was like a pair of shoes that didn’t fit. My wife actually found out about Cheeky Scientist and told me about it. As I learned more about it, I realized it was a community of individuals, not just an organization where information was pushed from the top down. I realized that Cheeky Scientist encouraged ideas from others. The organization of the dashboard is very nice and easy to navigate. The interviews are amazing. The webinars continue to provide value and I’ve listened to many more than once as quality of guests are extremely high. The transition stories have been amazing - it’s the most important part of the Association. The stories help people transition quicker. PhDs are extremely valuable with a skillset like no other. You have what it takes to transition, but that little spark inside of you needs to be reignited and that’s what the Association does.

I resonated with all the struggles other PhDs were having in their job search like sending hundreds of resume with no response.

When I joined the Association, I was out of options and desperate for a position. I resonated with all the struggles other PhDs were having in their job search like sending hundreds of resume with no response. The Association changed my job search strategy. I also realized that I had to network and that my resume was not at the industry standard. The trainings on LinkedIn were very helpful too, in fact that’s how I started getting referrals. The Association is a group of likeminded scientists who are all trying to use their degrees to make their way into the workforce. It’s a service and website that gives you insights into how to approach your job search. It’s a private group that gives you advice on anything and everything related to this.

The Association is a very supportive platform of PhDs where you get help from real people right when you need it.

Everyone I knew was doing a postdoc so I had no mentors to guide me in my transition into industry. I started to look online for help and that is when I luckily stumbled across Cheeky Scientist. Immediately after joining, I was learning so much from the private group and listening to the experiences of others. Any time I had a question, I received support right away. The amount of people who were willing to help me, from the other Associates to the consultants, was incredible. I went from having zero mentors to a huge support system of like-minded people who encouraged me. I was able to get answers to my questions right away. The Association is a very supportive platform of PhDs where you get help from real people right when you need it.

I wish I would have known about it even earlier because it’s a platform that helped me leverage my unique skills.

I joined Cheeky Scientist before I started my job search. Like most people, I relied heavily on my academic CV. Then I read the Cheeky Scientist blogs and it hit me that I need to join this Association. The modules and structure of the program really helped me find a position that was right for me personally and professionally rather than simply finding 'any' role. The network was the most important aspect by far. The transition stories were very powerful and motivating not to mention all the valuable information on how to network, how to polish our LinkedIn profile, how to leave the negotiation table if you don’t get a good offer, etc. I wish I would have known about it even earlier because it’s a platform that helped me leverage my unique skills.

It’s a cure for the emotionally exploitive world of the traditional lab rat.

I joined the Association as soon as I heard of it because it was exactly what I needed. I was completely lost in terms of my job search. I wouldn’t have been hired without it. It’s been helpful even after getting the job and I know it will help me get promoted too. All the materials were great. I devoured all of the videos and took notes. The salary negotiation training in particular made me much more confident in my job search overall.  The CSA is a program that recognizes there is a massive pool of employable PhDs who are unsure how to take the next step in their careers. The Association is a systematic solution for this for PhDs. It’s a cure for the emotionally exploitive world of the traditional lab rat.

Matthew Stief, Ph.D.

It is a great collection of resources for getting PhDs hired.

I just saw that there were no professorships available in academia and I didn't want to do the 5 year minimum of a postdoc. The competition is too intense for such a small prize. That is when I came across the Cheeky Scientist Association. It had a well organized path laid out and the private group provided a wealth of information. It is a great collection of resources for getting PhDs hired. It is a very fictional and complete program and the CSA has brought in the right people that are and will be of great support no matter the stage of your transition.

Jonathan Groth, Ph.D.

The stories that were shared in the private group really resonated with me. It made me realize or remember my own power.

The CSA is a program that creates a mindset shift AWAY from academia (teaches you to stop thinking you’ll be a professor or get grants, etc). It’s really a program about communication too - how to network, communicate with bosses and all other essential conversations that you need to master to transition into industry. The stories that were shared in the private group really resonated with me. It made me realize to remember my own power. The program was VERY complete and comprehensive, and the member’s directory is a fantastic way to connect with other Cheekies with common interests or locations.

The mindset you develop from being a Cheeky Scientist is incredible - you gain confidence & courage to start networking.

I always wanted to go to industry. Before joining the CSA, I had sent out many resumes and kept getting no responses. I contacted people who did video testimonials for the CSA on LinkedIn and set up informational interviews with them. After talking with them I knew that the CSA would be able to help me. As soon as I joined, I was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of material I had access to. The resume material helped me immediately. I stopped my job search and started going through the material. The mindset you develop from being a Cheeky Scientist is incredible - you gain confidence & courage to start networking. The negotiation materials were priceless. If you want to go to any position in industry, especially training that is not just lab based, the Association will give you the overall development for practical and theoretical aspects of industry. It grooms you to do well in everything from resumes to informational interviews.

Aditya J. Desai, Ph.D.

Because of Association I was completely prepared for all interviews.

My first impression of the Cheeky Scientist Association was: “Wow, there are so many people like me!” I felt inspired reading the guidebook of 40 different industry positions for PhDs. I never knew there were so many opportunities for us. I learned about FAS positions and it was a perfect fit. Now I have this position. Because of Association I was completely prepared for all interviews. The CSA is a group that guides you for any position you are interested in and it teaches you about more opportunities than you ever thought about. If you don’t have time for your job search or don’t know where to start - the Association will streamline your strategy and make sure it is successful.

Overall, the CSA is a really big, and diverse network, of both prior academics and career transition professionals that help you transition into industry

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I had no idea where to start. No one in academia had trained me on anything but the academic track. I didn’t know who to talk to or how to network. When I joined, I immediately learned a great deal from other people's experiences that were shared in the private group, in particular interview experiences. The resume modules were also very helpful. Overall, the CSA is a really big, and diverse network, of both prior academics and career transition professionals that help you transition into industry.

I remember reading that I would make the enrollment fee back in no time after getting an industry job. It definitely delivered on that!

I was considering leaving academia for 18 months. I wasn’t sleeping at night and even though I thought I was going to get tenure, I still wanted out. The culture of academia was not for me. I saw colleague after colleague not get tenure even after getting rewards. Cheeky Scientist really overdelivered for me. I remember reading that I would make the enrollment fee back in no time after getting an industry job. It definitely delivered on that! The Transition Plan was the most important part of the program for me by far. The technical pieces really helped me, especially everything on LinkedIn. Overall, Cheeky Scientist is a great tool for figuring out what you want with your career. It is not a magic bullet - you need to put in the work too, but it was pivotal for me and my successful transition.

The positivity in the group and the accountability to network and get referrals was very helpful.

I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association because I was unsure what the next step of my career path should be. I didn't know what was available for me and what I was qualified to do. When I joined, the single most important aspect was the private group - the reinforcement from other PhDs that academia was broken and there were other options. The positivity in the group and the accountability to network and get referrals was very helpful. The Transition Plan also resonated with me and help me to determine what professional lifestyle was right for me. I definitely recommend the CSA for anyone who is looking for alternative careers outside of academia.

The Association helps you to learn what you need to know to be successful in industry.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is a network that helps you establish your career outside of academia. It helps you to develop your transferable skills, which are essential in industry. Every PhD can learn these skills but PhDs don't know what they don't know. The Association helps you to learn what you need to know to be successful in industry. I have a background in mechanical engineering and found the constant feedback from the group extremely helpful. I gained a lot of motivation and insights from reading the stories of other associates, which directly helped me to transition into my current role.

Alkaios Bournias-Varotsis, Ph.D.

The CSA is a support group and job referral network. It’s a group of PhDs where everyone’s goal is to get out of academia.

I have a chemical engineering background and was looking for careers outside of academia. I tried writing cover letters and resumes on my own but was struggling to figure out how to write them and what industry wanted to hear. I had anxiety when it came to networking, especially with industry professionals outside my field. I came across CSA when a Cheeky article about the difference between academia and industry was forwarded to me by a professor. I loved the pitch: a program by PhDs for PhDs. A week later I was enrolled. The CSA is a support group and job referral network. It’s a group of PhDs where everyone’s goal is to get out of academia. There are lots of webinars, including a good one on Imposter Syndrome. You get job search strategies and perspectives of hiring managers. The interview presentation and negotiation webinars were the most valuable for me during my transition process, while the private group provided a personal touch. I was able to share scripts and resumes and having this personal guidance really helped with my confidence as well.

Evan Dubiel, Ph.D.

It’s a support group for PhDs where everyone works together with you, instead of against you, to get you a job.

I actually transitioned 2 years ago into industry but it was a terrible experience. I just took the first offer I was given. I didn't negotiate and I was undervalued. After 6 months I left the job and then spent 6 months unemployed and desperate. That is when I found the Cheeky Scientist Association through a connection on LinkedIn. It's a support group for PhDs where everyone works together with you, instead of against you, to get you a job. The amount of information you receive after joining is incredible. I wanted to do everything immediately but I paced myself so I did not get overwhelmed. The webinars, especially those related to the field I wanted to transition to, were the most helpful for me. Living in Argentina, I still found the content relevant and I hope the CSA can expand there as it has done globally.

If you're a postdoc or grad student looking for industry jobs then the first thing you need to do is join the Association.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was only passively thinking about transitioning. I would send out resumes without targeting them to a company and I felt I was owed a job because I had a PhD. Then a current member told me about the CSA and convinced me to join. The first workshop about resumes was a game changer. I learned so many new things that would not have been intuitive to a PhD fresh out of academia. The single most important feature for me was the private group. I was nervous about negotiating my starting salary and didn't want to go through with it but I was encouraged by the consultants in the private group and it worked! If you're a postdoc or grad student looking for industry jobs then the first thing you need to do is join the Association. There is a lot to learn about industry and it will be exceedingly difficult to do it on your own.

The Association is VERY international and can PhDs from all corners of the globe.

I knew I wanted to leave academia early in my PhD but how to do it was a mystery to me. I didn’t know what an industry resume should look like and I thought publications were all I needed. I didn’t think I had to network. As I was looking for a job in Europe I felt networking did not hold as much importance as it did in America (I was completely wrong). I went to workshops at my institute for guidance but they were not enough. The Cheeky Scientist Association is an interactive platform that gives you the tools to understand what it takes to transition, what a transition is and it’s a platform that allows for exchange of a huge amount of information for people in all different phases of their transition. The members of the Association were the differentiator. It’s impossible for a handful consultants to address the questions of thousands so the members themselves are help one another out, including members that have already transitioned into industry and that have gone through similar experiences. The stories/experiences of others are really helpful. Failure and success stories. The Association is VERY international and can PhDs from all corners of the globe.

Antonio Martins, Ph.D.

The webinar on networking was the biggest game changer for me mentally. I totally undervalued the importance of networking.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I made a lot of classical mistakes - it was always my goal to transition into industry but I was submitting 5-page CVs with information about proteins and mice strains, etc. I would reach out on LinkedIn and ask for a job right away. I didn’t understand the importance of networking. I was only networking with other PhDs who needed a job. I heard about the Association through a friend and signed up right away. I was totally overwhelmed in the most positive sense. The webinar on networking was the biggest game changer for me mentally. I totally undervalued the importance of networking. It was hard at first but I trained myself to become more and more confident and comfortable which led to more networking and referral opportunities. My confidence boosted tremendously. I have told everyone about the CSA! It is a great way to learn what you have to do to get a job outside academia.

The Cheeky Scientist Association makes me feel like a better person professionally and personally.

I wanted to join the Association for a long time but did not have the money and my postdoc funding was set to expire. I also doubted that it would be helpful for someone like be, being an older academic. It was not long after joining that I realized it was well-worth the membership fee. If you don’t join the Association, you’ll never learn enough to get a job. The free content you find online is not enough -- you need the exclusive network that it offers. Recruiters started contacting me after -- and they still contact me! The private group is an essential feature. Everyone shares their personal highs and lows and encourages one another to persevere. Transitioning from academia is difficult and stressful but with the Association, you never feel alone and you know you are supported 100%. CSA has also allowed me to give back as a mentor. I no longer feel like a failure - I’m not a failure. I’m an achiever. The Cheeky Scientist Association makes me feel like a better person professionally and personally.

I realized that I was approaching my job search wrong. I needed to figure out my end point first and the professional lifestyle that was right for me.

When I started applying to Regulatory Affairs positions, I kept hearing that I didn't have enough experience. I hadn't networked and didn't have any connections in industry, either. I learned about the Cheeky Scientist Association through a friend who sent me a link to one of the blog articles. I knew for sure that I wanted to join. I loved the private group and the breadth of webinars that were available to me and wished I would have joined sooner! I realized that I was approaching my job search wrong. I needed to figure out my end point first and the professional lifestyle that was right for me. Then I updated my LinkedIn profile and resume according the to CSA guidelines and everything started falling into place. For anyone considering joining the CSA, my advice is: just do it! Once I joined and started reading the success stories of other members, I realized that if they can do it, so can I.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is a group of intelligent people. A group dedicated to helping each other.

I was spending a long time in a postdoc and it became clear it wasn’t helping me. I felt like I should be doing more. Then a friend told me about the Association and said it was an organization that I should be involved with. The CSA made me feel motivated again and I felt encouraged. All the training videos were very helpful. Initially I thought the only thing I could do was benchwork but the CSA made me feel like I could I find something else, something amazing - I felt like I could do so much more. After I joined the group I was so amazed to see PhDs helping me every time I had a question. Everyone's stories were invaluable. The Association showed me that I wasn’t the only one who felt stuck - other PhDs were having similar struggles but together we could share our successes. The Cheeky Scientist Association is a group of intelligent people. A group dedicated to helping each other. You can do a lot after becoming a member. You have access to a network of more than 2,000 PhDs.

When I joined the CSA, it was the first time I came across material that specifically addressed where I was coming from and what I was trying to achieve.

I knew I wanted to go into industry when I started my PhD but then I lost my way in academia as everyone around me was against it. When I joined the CSA, it was the first time I came across material that specifically addressed where I was coming from and what I was trying to achieve. I loved it immediately. All the modules were very well organized and easy to follow and the private group was really, really helpful. For me, the project management material was the most useful. From the group posts to the webinar, it helped me incorporate business language into my interview and provided me with a source of interview questions to expect and prepare for. For any PhD who is trying to figure out where they are going, the CSA will help you get there. It is well worth the money.

More than 2,000 CSA members sharing their experience!

I only knew people in academia. I went to conferences but struggled to connect with industry professionals. Then one of my friends saw an AskCheeky video on Facebook and told me about it. I was very skeptical at first of the Association and didn’t want to pay the enrolment fee but the success story videos proved to me it was real. They know the issues that PhDs face and how to train them. The private group was enjoyable because people shared so many stories, each of which brought a new lesson and made me a stronger candidate. More than 2,000 CSA members sharing their experience! The Modules were very helpful because it provided all the training material, all in one place. I didn’t realize that networking was so important but the CSA changed my attitude and I learned how to get referrals. The resume formatting was also exceptionally helpful. I soon realized I was submitting an academic CV to industry positions.

I was amazed to see how much support CSA members gave one another, even if they didn’t know each other.

I heard about the CSA during my PhD while I was submitting my thesis. At the time, I was thinking about doing a postdoc but I saw people around me doing 2 or 3 postdocs and I knew I did not want to be stuck in that trap. At the same time, I was confused about which career path was right for me. After I joined the association, I went through module #1 straight away and knew immediately that the program was worth the investment. The self-learning aspect was very helpful. I learned everything from how to network to how to do a cover letter - it had everything. The single most important feature for me was the Facebook group. I followed success stories and the situations that other PhDs were going through. I was amazed to see how much support CSA members gave one another, even if they didn’t know each other. People responded so quickly. It was so useful -- the information in this program is universal.

My transition into industry came down to networking.

My transition into industry came down to networking. I was determined to make it into industry as I had no desire to remain in academia but I lacked any industry experience. I applied for so many different jobs, especially MSL roles. I had the skills but didn’t have experience. In the end, networking paid off because I met up with someone in industry and applied the Association’s informational interview strategies, which also paid off. I learned from the specialists in the group how to adapt my LinkedIn profile and once I made the recommended changes, I started getting contacted a lot and this directly led to a job offer.

I realize now that PhDs will be replacing MBAs in the future. The Association helped me change my perspective.

I’m so grateful for the Association. Thank you. I know at the end of the day the Association is about business but it’s literally changing lives. I’ve seen people jumping from postdoc to postdoc, scared and miserable. There’s no need for it. I realize now that PhDs will be replacing MBAs in the future. The Association helped me change my perspective. The program also helped me get my dream job as a data scientist. I couldn’t be happier and more honored to be an Associate.

Shobeir Mazinani, Ph.D.
Data Scientist, American Traffic Solutions

The resume changes I made helped and before I knew it I had 5 interviews and offers.

My advisor really wanted me to go into academia but all I saw was a vision of myself as a professor begging for grants and having to train PhD students and postdocs. This is what I did not want - not begging for grant funding. It also really surprised me how few industry connections my PI had - I thought he was well connected and someone who could connect me to jobs. I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association but just missed enrollment. Panic set in as I waited until next enrollment and word of mouth grew about what the CSA could offer me. During the public webinars, there as a slide about salary - factual information - which was the deciding factor for me. The facts made me join as well as the success stories. I just started networking with the CSA group instead of trying to get it done all on my own. The resume changes I made helped and before I knew it I had 5 interviews and offers.

I used the Association’s resume, LinkedIn, and job referral strategies and very quickly, after applying to just two other jobs, I got callbacks from both companies and job offers from both companies too.

I really wanted to transition into a new career. I was too desperate though, which made it hard as this desperation came off in interviews. After joining the Association I started created a more targeted approach. The Association materials helped me realize that Medical Writing would be perfect for me. Once I figured this out, everything became easy. I used the Association’s resume, LinkedIn, and job referral strategies and very quickly, after applying to just two other jobs, I got callbacks from both companies and job offers from both companies too. Just like that. Now I’m working at a company that treats me very well and where my PhD skills and my personality are a perfect fit.

The step by step transition stories that others shared provided a lot of value and really helped put things into practical terms

The Association’s private group showed me that transitioning into industry without industry experience was feasible. The step by step transition stories that others shared provided a lot of value and really helped put things into practical terms. There was a lot of misconceptions for me in terms of getting a management consulting job and the job search was very unique and difficult. Yet, the Association helped me prepare, even for this specialized career path. It was great to find that there were other Associates already working at McKinsey & Company too, which is where I got hired.

Carolina Malcher, Ph.D.
Consultant, McKinsey & Company

I had been a postdoc for 4 years and I thought I would be a postdoc forever. I was dispirited, despondent and dejected.

I faced a lot of challenges when I was searching for an industry position. I didn't get a response for any of the applications I sent out. When I did hear back, everyone asked me about my visa status and refused to sponsor me. I was using the exact same resume for every position I applied for. I had been a postdoc for 4 years and I thought I would be a postdoc forever. I was dispirited, despondent and dejected. I thought I would be stuck in academia forever. I'm not against academia, it's just not where I belonged. I was really apprehensive about joining the Association because of all the hype surrounding the private group. Most private groups are inactive and unhelpful. I attended the public webinar on LinkedIn and learned why no one was looking at my profile. It was then I realized that Cheeky Scientist had a lot of value to provide. I finished the Cheeky materials in 3.5 weeks and this was the reason I got my job. The resume materials were very, very helpful and the private group is engaging and supportive.

By networking, I was able to uncover niche markets that were a better fit for me.

I had minimal experience in job searching, or industry in general, to start. The CSA was immediately helpful the moment I started in Module 1. It made me sit down and really figure out what I wanted to do and the type of professional lifestyle that was right for me. People with my background normally transitioned into either consulting or pharma but neither of these options were right for me and this was confirmed after doing many informational interviews. By networking, I was able to uncover niche markets that were a better fit for me. I revamped both my resume and LinkedIn profile. This, in addition to the networking, the sense of community and emotional support that I gain from joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, were exceptionally valuable.

In my mind PhDs could only leverage their publications and technical skills but the Association opened my eyes to the real value I could bring to industry.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was in a similar boat to many academics. I knew I wanted to leave academia but I didn't know where to start and I was ignorant of the industry landscape. After joining, I was hired faster than I could have ever expected. The CSA taught me how to set up informational interviews. This was key to help me start to understand what is valued in industry and where I might fit in (and how I already have skills for industry - I never thought about this before). I never thought about transferable skills at all actually - I had to change my mindset. In my mind PhDs could only leverage their publications and technical skills but the Association opened my eyes to the real value I could bring to industry.

All the CSA webinars on different career paths were instrumental for me. Not only did it help me figure out what I wanted to do but it helped me get interviews.

I was feeling a lot of guilt about leaving academia but it was a relief to finally let go and transition into industry. Before joining the CSA, I knew I was good at writing grants and publishing papers but I could not see what other value I could add to a company. I didn't know what I wanted from a career or what skills I could bring to the table. All the CSA webinars on different career paths were instrumental for me. Not only did it help me figure out what I wanted to do but it helped me get interviews. The CSA also helped me to drastically change my resume, after which I started getting contacted by recruiters and hiring managers. By far the most helpful part of the program was the private group. The instant feedback was invaluable. As a PhD, I think too much about every decision. The private group helped me to stop over-think and be confident because I was given assistance from people who have gone through it all before.

When I went for my industry interview, not only did they offer me the position, but they offered me a better position than the one I originally applied for.

I wanted to leave academia but industry was a black box to me. I had no idea what kinds of jobs to look for, who to talk to or how to approach a resume. I was lost! After joining the CSA, my number of connections on LinkedIn grew to +500. I received a lot of personal help in the private group for preparing my resume and preparing interview presentations. When I went for my industry interview, not only did they offer me the position, but they offered me a better position than the one I originally applied for. I became a Senior Scientist and received an excellent benefits package. Everything the Association said helped me during my transition and I cannot recommend them enough to other academics who wish to do the same.

My problem is I was begging for jobs - I didn’t know my worth. The Association taught me to know my value.

I didn’t have any contacts in the U.S. and no experience in the country either. My work experience was from South Korea so employers didn’t have confidence. Joining the Association was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life until now. My problem is I was begging for jobs - I didn’t know my worth. The Association taught me to know my value. The best part of joining was being surrounded by talented and supportive PhDs. I really like that people are open about their vulnerabilities. One more thing, I took a 3 year break after having my kids. I didn’t think I would get a job after that but I needed to take care of my family. The Association saved me in this area. Again, joining was the best decisions I ever made. Life is a relief now.

Chaya M Kataru, Ph.D.

Networking really works and the lessons you learn through the CSA will cover you for life.

Before joining CSA, I tried to network with friends and family. I think I lost a few good contacts/positions because of my underprepared resume and poor networking messages. But after joining CSA, I was exposed to how I can build the network over time and how I can tailor my message based on their response. Networking really works and the lessons you learn through the CSA will cover you for life. The time it takes for someone to transition will vary. For me, it took one year, for some Associates, it takes less than three months. But you cannot be too harsh on yourself. The CSA is always there to support you and help you to refine your approach. The key is to trust the process and not to rush. Now, I am very happy where I am. This is the company I dreamed of working for and my boss is fantastic.

I was a postdoc for 4 years and thought I would be a postdoc forever.

Before joining the CSA, my job hunt was going no where. I would send resumes (the exact same one) and hear no response. Recruiters would ask about my visa status and insist that few companies would be willing to sponsor me. I was a postdoc for 4 years and thought I would be a postdoc forever. My spirits were low, I felt despondent and dejected. I thought I was stuck in academia even though I knew, personally, it was not where I belonged. I was very apprehensive to join the Association because I didn't believe the private group could be of benefit to me. I attended the free public webinar on LinkedIn and learned immediately how my profile was preventing me from getting noticed by hiring managers.  That's when I knew it would be valuable to join. Once I joined the CSA, I went through the material in 3.5 weeks and it was directly responsible for me obtaining my job. The resume materials were very, very helpful and I learned how to create a targeted, industry savvy document.

Positive, constant feedback from the associates helped me to revamp my LinkedIn profile and my connections increased exponentially.

Given my location where people are more ‘private’, I felt extremely restricted in my job search and networking approaches. I also had awkward experiences during a few phone screens. I realized the need to have internal referrals and networks but had no idea how to get them. After I joined CSA, I was amazed by the super-quality and the fast feedback I got in the group. Positive, constant feedback from the associates helped me to revamp my LinkedIn profile and my connections increased exponentially. In particular, the ‘to-the-point’ tweaked texts from the highly talented associates enabled me to connect to people in my location. Finally, I started to have a network. Joining CSA has been a decision that I will never regret. Now I just travel 15 min to work.

The Association saved me - the success stories showed me that it’s possible to get a job.

CSA gave me such a strong platform to leverage to get a job. I’m a YouTube and blog junkie but everything else online is so poorly organized compared to the Association. The Association saved me - the success stories showed me that it’s possible to get a job. I learned so much from the private group - they inspired me and told me the strategic and tactical steps to get employed. The Association is for PhDs who are willing to share - it’s a community of like-minded people who want to be successful and want to help each other, there’s no nastiness, no criticism, just a complete can-do attitude.

I knew that I needed to do more than just upload resumes but I didn’t know what else there was to do or how to do it.

I knew that I needed to do more than just upload resumes but I didn’t know what else there was to do or how to do it. Getting a job was harder than I thought before joining the association, but much easier than I thought after joining and getting the right information. My "ah-ha" moment was when I found out just how useful LinkedIn was. I learned how to not be shy and how to follow up without being annoying. I learned how to be seen. In the private group, I was able to get feedback BEFORE I needed it. Hearing other people’s transition stories kept me going and the group culture kept me in a good mood throughout my job search.

I enjoyed the workshops on reaching out to people on LinkedIn and how to network online, including pages of scripts for us to use!

I joined the association a year before finishing my PhD. I saw what it means to be a postdoc and I was sure that it was not the kind of life I wanted. I knew there was something better out there but I didn't know what.  The association taught me the variety of positions that are available to me. I enjoyed the workshops on reaching out to people on LinkedIn and how to network online, including pages of scripts for us to use! The private group was very helpful as well.

The resume workshops were immensely helpful.

Like most PhDs, I knew I wanted to transition out of academia but I had no idea where to start. I came across the Cheeky Scientist Association and thought I had nothing to lose. I learned so much from the private group. The conversations helped me to feel at ease with my own worries and gave me confidence for upcoming interviews. The resume workshops were immensely helpful. I had no idea just how academic my resume was previously and what employers were actually looking for. I am grateful for all the advice and support of the Cheeky Scientist Association.

The Cheeky Scientist Association helped me look outside of my comfort zone.

I didn't think I would need help finding a job. I had a good resume (or so I thought) and I figured that was all there was to it. But my job search was coming up empty-handed and I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. The Cheeky Scientist Association helped me look outside of my comfort zone. They showed me how to network, create a targeted industry resume and realize all the potential I had. I was overwhelmed by the support of the Association's private community. They showed me that anything is possible with the right attitude and strategy.

The networking materials opened my eyes to the hidden job market and I was able to grow my network of industry professionals and gain insight into roles I never knew were available.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I had trouble finding jobs. I didn't know where to look (I was dependent on online job boards) or what job exactly I wanted. The networking materials opened my eyes to the hidden job market and I was able to grow my network of industry professionals and gain insight into roles I never knew were available. The interview materials ensured I went into every job application confident and ready to present myself in the best possible manner. The private group was also extremely helpful. It was inspiring and encouraging to read about what other people were doing, what challenges they faced and what worked for them.

Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was able to carve my own career path, doing something I love and working for myself.

Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was able to carve my own career path, doing something I love and working for myself.  The Association showed me that PhDs have a wealth of opportunities and should not pigeon-hole themselves into one role.  I learned about all sorts of jobs and even pursued management consulting for some time.  Cheeky showed me how my skills could adapt to a variety of careers and I improved my writing skills, learning to target to a specific audience.  Not only that, but my networking skills improved substantially. I feel very fortunate to be part of this group.

I attended many career events but found there was a disconnect between finding a job and gaining the necessary skills to do so. I joined the association because they provided specific, 'how-to' instructions to gain these skills.

Before joining the association, I had no idea how to transition or the processes that were involved. I attended many career events but found there was a disconnect between finding a job and gaining the necessary skills to do so. I joined the association because they provided specific, 'how-to' instructions to gain these skills. The modules helped me to focus on the career path I truly wanted and the professional lifestyle that went along with it. I am very shy by nature but the private group gave me confidence. Initially I simply watched the interactions within the group but I soon noticed how important it was to add value to gain value in return. I could not be more pleased with my decision to join.

I received help straight away, was able to connect with other Associates on LinkedIn and got many suggestions on how to apply for jobs.

A postdoc did not seem very appealing to me - short-term contracts, no teamwork and no translation of my work to everyday life. I recognized how little training I actually had to transition into industry so with less than 6 months left in my PhD, I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association. I wanted help with my resume, building my LinkedIn profile as well as filling in the gaps of any business skill deficiencies. I found the most value from the private group.  I received help straight away, was able to connect with other Associates on LinkedIn and got many suggestions on how to apply for jobs successfully. I managed to get a job only 4 days after enrolling!

I was hesitant to join at first as my background is in applied mathematics but the job search strategy is the same regardless of your background and I made valuable connections within the private group.

I struggled to think of what I could do with my PhD skills. The only thing I could come up with was a postdoc but that left me miserable. After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, my mindset shifted immediately. Instead of thinking of a career based on my technical skills, I thought about what I wanted to do and then designed an approach to get there. The CSA helped me to stop making excuses. Now I had a solid plan and it was up to me to make it happen. I was hesitant to join at first as my background is in applied mathematics but the job search strategy is the same regardless of your background and I made valuable connections within the private group. The private group provided invaluable and immediate feedback on everything from my LinkedIn profile to my resume. Not only that, but the feedback came from multiple sources. There was positive peer pressure to succeed which kept me accountable for my job search and was very motivating.

Vincent Genest, Ph.D.

I made a lot of friends and all the interviews I went to were thanks to suggestions by other Cheeky Scientist members.

Rejections are a normal part of the job search process. It never feels good to be rejected but if you learn from your failures, then you will continue to improve and you will succeed. The only reason I continually improved was because of the Cheeky Scientist Association. Before joining, I had no idea where to start.  I was randomly applying to jobs and hearing nothing in return. The Cheeky Scientist Association webinars were incredibly helpful, in particular the resume workshop and how to negotiate salaries. Negotiating a job offer never even cross my mind but thanks for the CSA, I was able to get significantly increase my starting salary. The private group is more like a support system. I made a lot of friends and all the interviews I went to were thanks to suggestions by other Cheeky Scientist members. Everyone helps each other out  - we are all cheering for each other.

Networking with other people who were going through the same thing is exactly what I needed and the support was tremendous.

Like many other PhD’s, I ended up stuck outside of academia, but without an industry position either. It wasn’t a good place to be and none of the businesses I sent my CV to were responding. It was pretty obvious that I needed some help, so I signed up for CSA in hopes of learning enough to move forward in my career. Almost immediately, I discovered that I’d been going about my job search all wrong. The course itself is extremely helpful with guiding you through the process of creating a good online presence, but what I found to be most helpful was the private group. Networking with other people who were going through the same thing is exactly what I needed and the support was tremendous. I would certainly recommend the program to other PhDs.

Jaideep Mallick, Ph.D.
Laboratory Manager and Senior Research Associate, Concordia University

It was extremely motivating to hear about other Cheeky transition stories in the private group. I would go through the posts and pick up on suggestions on how to improve my own job search strategy.

When I started my job search, I wasn't sure what I really wanted. I lacked passion for the position I was applying for. I just wanted a job - any job. I never asked questions following a job interview, never showed curiosity and failed to follow up. The Cheeky Scientist Association taught me the value of always asking questions. Thanks to them, I completely changed my mindset towards interviews. I put myself in the position of the hiring manager and wondered what exactly they were looking for in a new hire. I researched companies extensively before interviewing and only applied to companies I really wanted to work for. It was extremely motivating to hear about other Cheeky transition stories in the private group. I would go through the posts and pick up on suggestions on how to improve my own job search strategy. All the information I needed to transition was at my fingertips.

Through the CSA, I learned exactly how to network and began to put my new skills to use.

I’m a postdoc, but I discovered that I had very few skills that would translate into seeking and finding a position in the industry. Through the CSA, I learned exactly how to network and began to put my new skills to use. The training is very well thought out and motivating. It helped me become far more confident as I start applying for industry jobs. It’s definitely a program that I would recommend to anyone who is in need of a little help.

I implemented the resume changes they recommended, sent it out to 3 companies and got 3 call backs the next day.

Immigration issues caused a lot of headache for me early on. I was unable to get a H1B visa and had subsequently quit my job. I was then able to get a Green Card and started applying for months but never received any interviews even though I had previous industry experience. When I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was struck by all the success stories. I watched the resume workshop and it changed my entire life. I implemented the resume changes they recommended, sent it out to 3 companies and got 3 call backs the next day. I couldn't believe it. It was the best day I ever had - I was jumping up and down! I am very excited about my new job - the entire transition process has been a transformative experience for me.

The Transition Plan is awesome - it allowed me to figure out what I really want.

I looked for a job for months without success. My resume got me through to some interviews but I choked on the behavioral questions. I felt defeated. I nearly gave up completely until I came upon the Cheeky Scientist Association. The Transition Plan is awesome - it allowed me to figure out what I really want. I went from being scatterbrained to knowing exactly what I wanted to do. I became focused. The workshop on professional branding really stood out for me and helped me to build industry credibility. Above all, the private group helped me immensely. They raised my self-esteem. People feel comfortable not only sharing their successes but also their failures. This open and supportive community was exactly what I need to turn my job search around.

I was really impressed with the support and the positive community - everyone was really open to helping others.

There’s a lot of opportunity in Boston but also much more competition. I struggled to get my name out there and get an interview. After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was really impressed with the support and the positive community - everyone was really open to helping others. After just a few days, I was able to start getting job referrals and securing interviews from other Associates. Despite the competition in Boston, I was able to get into a top job and am now very happy.

After joining, I gained immediate benefit from the Transition Plan - everything was very strategic, specific and easy-to-follow.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I had no direction. I lacked any information about job searching and was geographically very isolated so did not have the opportunity to attend any networking events.  What made it even worse was that everyone around me was confused too. I had no mentors, no guidance available to me. I had no idea what positions were out there. After joining, I gained immediate benefit from the Transition Plan - everything was very strategic, specific and easy-to-follow. I develop business acumen and thought more like an industry professional. My questions were always immediately answered in the private group and I felt a sense confident walking into my interviews.

The Association's private group provided a supportive environment and all my frantic questions were immediately answered.

I didn't think I had enough experience to transition into industry. I assumed no one would hire me and that I wouldn't fit in anywhere outside academia. The Cheeky Scientist Association was a breath of fresh air. The Association's private group provided a supportive environment and all my frantic questions were immediately answered. I was surrounded by other PhDs who had the same trepidation as I did and I was able to interact with them personally. It was an amazing feeling. The material was especially helpful to teach me the etiquette of interviews and negotiation. The webinars contained a wealth of knowledge on such a wide variety of topics. It was perfect for anyone exploring different career paths and unsure where to start.

I was able to learn first-hand from Associates about what certain positions entail, as well as how to leverage my strengths for the right position for me. There were so many helpful conversations, I cannot stress its value enough.

I had the best night sleep of my life the day I decided to leave academia. For 4 months I felt stuck, knowing I wanted to leave my postdoc but unsure what to do about it. I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association and immediately the materials opened my eyes to all the fields I could explore. The private group was by far the most helpful component. Initially I thought about transitioning into a Medical Science Liaison role but I learned from Associates in the private group that this would involve a lot of travel, which would not suit my lifestyle. I was able to learn first-hand from Associates about what certain positions entail, as well as how to leverage my strengths for the right position for me. There were so many helpful conversations, I cannot stress its value enough.

I worked in academia for over 12 years after getting my PhD and thought my career was pretty much over. I knew I had a lot of skills to offer outside of academia but I thought I was too old now, and I didn't know what I wanted to do.

I worked in academia for over 12 years after getting my PhD and thought my career was pretty much over. I knew I had a lot of skills to offer outside of academia but I thought I was too old now, and I didn't know what I wanted to do. The Association helped me find my target. The online materials helped me understand what options were available and which careers would suit my strengths. All of the webinars were helpful in reaffirming my decision to leave academia and making me a stronger job candidate. From technical sales to communication, the webinars covered a breadth of transferable skill training and career topics. I enjoyed that I could always depend on the private group whenever I needed to to answer all my questions and help me prepare for upcoming interviews.

The CSA helped me to become an industry professional through their extensive training program and online resources.

My first introduction to the Cheeky Scientist Association was when I attended the Cheeky Scientist Summit in Boston. I didn't know the first thing about networking or how to frame a professional email. The CSA helped me to become an industry professional through their extensive training program and online resources. The webinar on presentation skills helped me to impress companies at interviews and they remarked how they never expected such a professional presentation from an academic. As I did not have time to check into the private group often, I was happy to receive a weekly email which summarized the best conversations from the private group as well as advertising local Cheeky Scientist meetups and keeping me up-to-date when other associates successfully transitioned into industry.

Without Cheeky, I would not have gotten the job I have today!

I had absolutely no experience with job searching. The Cheeky Scientist Association helped me through its supportive private group. Associates who had already transitioned remained active in the private group and their expertise and helpful recommendations were very encouraging. The webinars brought a fresh perspective on various industry careers from professionals located all over the world. The Research Scientist Society questionnaire was very stimulating and this private group gave me even more structure. The mock interviews and video calls were fantastic and I always received help on perfecting written scripts to hiring manager, recruiters, cold contacts and the like! Without Cheeky, I would not have gotten the job I have today!

I was especially happy to see that the Cheeky Scientist Association is so international.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I knew I didn't want to become a professor. My job search consisted of randomly reaching out to people online and uploading resumes. Needless to say, it was fruitless and I never received a single call back. After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, everything changed. The resume workshop was eye-opening, I completely revamped my LinkedIn profile and learned how to do informational interviews. Using the CSA strategy, these informational interviews turned into real job interviews. I received a job offer and used the CSA negotiation technique to successfully increase my salary by 5K. I was especially happy to see that the Cheeky Scientist Association is so international. In the private group, I learned about so many new opportunities and was able to network with like-minded people across the world.

I realized I was applying to industry jobs with an academic CV and this was preventing me from getting interviews.

I knew I didn't want to stay in academia. In fact, I often thought about quitting my PhD altogether. I would send out resumes in my spare time and hide the fact that I was a PhD student. I followed the Cheeky Scientist Association for a while but I was skeptical of whether or not it would be of any value to me. I thought it was a gimmick. Once I finally decided to join, I learned just how wrong I was. I wish I would have joined sooner because I quickly realized that I was making many mistakes. For example, I was applying to industry jobs with an academic CV and this was preventing me from getting interviews, or any call-backs whatsoever. The private group became my moral support. I felt helpless in academia but with the support of the Association's private group, I felt more empowered and knew I could always turn to them for a second opinion. Now, I have the job I want and am very happy.

Once I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I saw that there were A LOT of options for PhDs like myself.

Postdoc or professorship. Those were the only two options I thought I had for the next stage stage of my career. Once I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I saw that there were A LOT of options for PhDs like myself. I learned how to create a targeted resume and how to effectively network. The LinkedIn and informational interview training documents were very helpful and taught me the importance of building online credibility and reaching out to industry professionals to gain industry insight. On top of all the materials, the support of the private group was essential. Whenever I had questions, I could get them answered right away.

The private group was the biggest help by far. The immediate feedback was amazing and it eliminated the feeling of loss and despair that is often associated with career transitioning.

I had no idea how to start my job search. I was surrounded by lifetime academics who had no idea how to get into industry and could not provide me with any guidance. I was interested in clinical research but, beyond random Google searches, I had no idea where jobs in this area could be found. Once I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, the structured material gave me a lot of confidence that there were options available to me. I thought, YES! There is a lot I can do. It solidified my decision to go into industry and validated my feelings. The private group was the biggest help by far. I could see how other responded to the modules and it helped me feel like I was part of a team. The immediate feedback was amazing and it eliminated the feeling of loss and despair that is often associated with career transitioning.

The most important moment for me was when I was told to change my mindset about resumes - it was not a peer-reviewed journal but a marketing tool.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I had been looking for a job for 6 months. I changed postdocs and starting hating academia. I sent resumes and, even with a referral, was unable to get a job.  I would read outdated articles online with conflicting advice and finally stumbled upon the Cheeky Scientist Association. I soon realized that I was not thinking about the lifestyle I wanted, just the job title. I never bothered to make any long terms plans. The most important moment for me was when I was told to change my mindset about resumes - it was not a peer-reviewed journal but a marketing tool. The private group showed me that finally I was not alone. Previously I felt horrible because no one wanted to hire me. Soon I realized many others felt the same despair and that job hunting was a challenge for everyone. If you’re someone who needs support and knowledge to figure out how to transition to an industry position, I recommend CSA.

I can’t express how incredible this program actually is, on so many levels and platforms ...because of the Association's negotiation materials I got 50% more than the average salary!

I’m just so happy, just really happy. Thank you Cheeky Scientist. I can’t express how incredible this program actually is, on so many levels and platforms. It really resonated with me. I struggled to get full-time, permanent work but failed over and over again. The network was life-changing. Getting immediate feedback and discussing people with high-level information. I lost confidence and got to the point where I would take any job. I was shooting blind. The Association made me sit down and decide what I want. This program reminded me that I was valuable. I had no idea how to negotiate and because of the Association's negotiation materials I got 50% more than the average salary!

After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I learned just how many career options there are for academics.

I only knew of very few alternative career options for PhDs. After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I learned just how many career options there are for academics. The webinar on Careers in Patent Law resonated with me and was instrumental for my current career trajectory. The workshops on networking, informational interviews and improving your LinkedIn profile were very helpful and, after applying the techniques the CSA taught me, I could see positive changes in my job search immediately. The private groups was also an important aspect of my transition - it was amazing to get immediate feedback when I had a problem.

The Cheeky Scientist Association gave me the perspective and strategy I needed to feel comfortable promoting myself and the value I could offer a company.

I didn't know what I wanted to do but I did NOT want to get stuck in research. Transitioning from academia was a black box to me. I didn't know the steps and I grossly underestimated the value of networking. Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association, I prioritized networking and that directly led to my job. In fact, I didn't even apply to the position - I got in through a referral. The quick feedback and the positive energy of the private group helped me a lot. They provided me with constructive feedback which helped me to compose a resume that people would actually read. The Cheeky Scientist Association gave me the perspective and strategy I needed to feel comfortable promoting myself and the value I could offer a company.

The environment in the Cheeky Scientist Association is very positive, supportive and, most importantly, responsive.

Unfortunately, people with an academic background have no training for the job search process. We have no idea how to leverage our transferable skills. Because of this, my job search was very frustrating. I was unemployed for six months. Once I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, my job search strategy changed immediately. I was able to negotiate a 10% increase in my salary by leveraging job offers between two companies. The environment in the Cheeky Scientist Association is very positive, supportive and, most importantly, responsive. I feel completely satisfied about my decision to join.

When I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I changed my academic mindset to an industry mindset.

My background is in social science and development psychology. I was dissatisfied with academia but I didn't know what I wanted or where to start. I received a lot of conflicting advice from academic advisers. When I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I changed my academic mindset to an industry mindset. I started to think about jobs differently. I made changes to my LinkedIn profile, dramatically changed my resume and networked. Reading through the comments in the private group was extremely helpful. I learned a lot and it was helpful to see what other people experienced. I never felt alone - I was apart of a support group and that made a huge difference.

The live industry-specific webinars provided by the Cheeky Scientist Association opened my eyes to all the positions that were available to me and drew me to the position I have today.

I used to attend networking events but never made any connections. In fact, I had very few connections outside of academia. The Cheeky Scientist Association taught me how to network correctly and provided PhD-specific advice. I made a ton of changes to my resume and the material on interviewing was extremely helpful. I was nervous about interviewing but I learned how to control the conversation by asking questions and this took away all the nerves. The live industry-specific webinars provided by the Cheeky Scientist Association opened my eyes to all the positions that were available to me and drew me to the position I have today.

After I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, my resume was completely overhauled. After this, I got hired very quickly.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I knew I wanted out of academia but I didn’t know anyone from industry. I had NO IDEA how the job search process worked. I thought that if I just kept applying online, I would eventually get a job. I sent out thousands of resumes and never heard anything in return. After I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, my resume was completely overhauled. After this, I got hired very quickly. My LinkedIn profile went from 4 connections to over 500. All the Core Training Videos were very helpful, especially the interview information. I had no idea how the interview process worked and the training programs on these topics helped me. I did exactly what the instructors said and came up with a list of questions and turned myself into the interviewer. This strategy worked very well and now, thanks to the Association, I've started my industry career.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, my job search strategy was pathetic. I only sent out resumes online and got zero responses.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, my job search strategy was pathetic. I only sent out resumes online and got zero responses. Everyone told me to start networking but no one told me how. There was no guidance on reaching out to industry professionals. I would reach out to someone and immediately ask for a job and my emails would be 2-3 paragraphs long. Practically a novel. On top of all of this, I was living off my savings. I knew I made the right choice in joining the Cheeky Scientist Association immediately. In Module #1, the Transition Plan provided me with a pathway. I learned that there were  many roads I could follow in industry.  After completing the Transition Plan, I was able to narrow down my job search to 2-3 positions that interested me. I found the lifestyle I wanted and fit a job to it. I quickly learned my resume was way too technical for hiring managers. I never quantified my results and never tailored it the audience. I also learned how to network property. The private group gave me the support I needed. Before the Cheeky Scientist Association, I would quit after reaching out to someone once but the private group taught me to be persistent and gave me confidence to keep pushing forward.

The Cheeky Scientist Association taught me to be confident as every PhD has the skills to successfully transition into industry.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I knew the importance of networking but had no idea how to do it. I took part in many networking events but I didn't apply the correct strategies so I was unable to build relationships or get referrals. After I joined, I applied the networking strategies the CSA taught me. In particular, I started following up with people that I met and adding value. Eventually, this led to a job referral.  The private group was a tremendous help, including tips on writing an industry resume and a huge resource of interview questions and answers. The Cheeky Scientist Association taught me to be confident as every PhD has the skills to successfully transition into industry.

The Cheeky Scientist Association showed me there are job opportunities outside academia.

The Cheeky Scientist Association showed me there are job opportunities outside academia. I no longer felt forced to enter into a postdoc. The transition plan helped me to figure out exactly the lifestyle I wanted which made job searching so much easier. The private group was amazing - they are not judgmental and you get responses immediately to your questions. It was by far the best part of the program. I felt like I was not alone and I couldn't be happier.

Joining the Cheeky Scientist Association meant I finally found a group that knew what I was going through.

Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association I received multiple job offers. I applied to a government lab position and bombed the interview and then received an offer the next day because I continued to network. Joining the Cheeky Scientist Association meant I finally found a group that knew what I was going through. The salary negotiation training programs were invaluable. Since I had multiple offers I was able to negotiate two levels up in my salary. The association taught me to stay positive and to focus on the value I can add to others.

Amy Heffernan, Ph.D.
NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Fellow, Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health

I received TWO job offers, both of which were the result of networking events that I would have never attended if not for the Cheeky Scientist Association.

As a mother, searching for a job was extremely difficult.  I never thought about networking with a child pulling constantly pulling at my leg. I was an accidental academic. I was a junior faculty member but I did not enjoy the politics and the funding situation was terrible. I read books on getting jobs but got nowhere. The plan laid out by Cheeky Scientist Association was strategic and I had nothing to lose by joining. They taught me not to get sucked into the day to day experiments but to think about my long-term goals. Thanks to their teachings, I did a ton of informational interviews and grew my network. I received TWO job offers, both of which were the result of networking events that I would have never attended if not for the Cheeky Scientist Association.

The vibe from the Cheeky Scientist Association lifted up my spirits and provided me with the encouragement to keep going.

I knew I wanted to leave academia because I never saw myself as a professor. I looked for a job for 7-8 months before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association. I had a lot of trouble because I was looking for a job in a different country than where I lived at the time. The vibe from the Cheeky Scientist Association lifted up my spirits and provided me with the encouragement to keep going. I received invaluable help from the other associates, the online workshops and the live webinars. In particular, they helped me through each stage of interview process, which eventually led to landing my dream job.

With the help of the Cheeky Scientist Association, I set myself a goal to network my way into a job and I did.

I got my first job in industry purely by networking. I did not even submit a formal resume. Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I never knew about following-up. I preemptively bailed on job applications even when I had a referral to avoid failure. When it came to creating my resume, I suffered from writer's block. I had a really bad experience in academia but did not know what steps to take to leave. The CSA's focus on overcoming limiting beliefs was instrumental. I gained confidence and encouragement sharing with the private group and listening to associates' stories and their interview experience. With the help of the Cheeky Scientist Association, I set myself a goal to network my way into a job and I did.

The program taught me that most jobs come from referrals and they were right because I got the industry job I wanted after a referral from someone I knew 10 years ago.

The politics of academia were difficult and at times I felt as though I was treated unfairly. One big issue for me was that the academic hierarchy seemed unfair - it was based on seniority, not results. For these and other reasons I started making plans to leave academia, but I wasn’t sure where to start. After joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I quickly learned how to create a job search strategy and I learned the importance of networking. The program taught me that most jobs come from referrals and they were right because I got the industry job I wanted after a referral from someone I knew 10 years ago. I also learned how to properly format my LinkedIn profile, as well as how and when to follow up. The Association is full of concrete advice, not just fluff. And the group itself is full of positive and like-minded people talking in depth about industry, which was refreshing because there were not a lot of positive people talking about industry in graduate school. My advice to any PhD or PhD candidate looking for a job is to get the help you need to make the transition and start networking now. I couldn’t be happier now working for one of the largest biotech firms in the country.

Jennifer Fox, Ph.D.
Scientist I, MedImmune

I landed my industry job shortly after joining the Association, so I can definitely say it works. If you're a PhD and are ready to take your career to the next level, I highly recommend joining the Association.

I can’t say enough about the Cheeky Scientist Association. I’m a postdoc and was an employed PhD, but I wanted to make the transition to a better job, preferably within the industry. It was amazing to meet other people who are on the same path as me. I found the course highly motivational and very practical, with plenty of information provided by actual experts in the field. I landed my industry job shortly after joining the Association, so I can definitely say it works. If you're a PhD and are ready to take your career to the next level, I highly recommend joining the Association.

The Cheeky Scientist Association was exactly what I needed.

I’m still studying, but I’ve known for a while that I don’t want a career in academia. I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association to learn about the various career options open to researchers and to find out how to get started in networking and resume building. None of these things came naturally to me, so the Cheeky Scientist Association was exactly what I needed. I’m already applying the networking strategies I’ve learned in my own life and expect to see big dividends by the time I graduate. The feeling of community in the program is incredible and possibly one of the more valuable components, along with the ability to practice networking with current students and alumni. CSA has been quite helpful as I prepare to look for an industry position.

Hearing other Associate's success stories in the private group showed me that transitioning was possible for me too.

I never thought I could actually get an industry job. The truth is I was in a very difficult situation in academia. I was so tired of research and was definitely ready for something else. That's when I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association and I'm really glad I did because I received a lot of benefits right away. The best part of the program by far was the private group. The confidence and motivation in the group really helped hold me accountable and push me forward. Thanks to the group, my mindset changed completely. Hearing other Associate's success stories in the private group showed me that transitioning was possible for me too. The Cheeky Scientist program showed me how to systematically execute a job search and successfully transition into industry. I couldn't be more excited for my new job. In fact, this Monday is my first day. I can't wait!

The Association's private group and group posts were very helpful and all the instructional modules were exceptionally advanced but easy to understand.

I had known early on that I wanted to leave academia but I didn’t know what I wanted to do or what position I was looking for. I had no idea where to start or how to crack into a new network in industry. Nothing in my current department had helped me previously and I was just doing what family members suggested I should but was getting what I needed. I heard about Cheeky Scientist from another PhD student and decided to join. After joining, I had some early “ah-ha” moments. The Association's private group and group posts were very helpful and all the instructional modules were exceptionally advanced but easy to understand. I appreciated and utilized the real world interviewing help, documents, Q&A and interviewing webinar in moving into an industry job.

Camillie Birch, Ph.D.

Joining the Cheeky Scientist Association was the best investment I’ve ever made.

I was a postdoc for 4 years before finally getting an industry job and the only reason I got the job I wanted is because I followed the Cheeky Scientist Association’s follow-up strategies. After staying in touch with some key hiring managers and following the “3-4 touch point” rule, the job was mine. I was also able to negotiate a higher salary and a signing bonus using the Association’s negotiation gambits. Joining the Cheeky Scientist Association was the best investment I’ve ever made. The program takes you from unsure scientist to confident industry professionals. It changed my life.

Bartosz Balczerski, Ph.D.
Senior Scientist at Leica Biosystems

The Cheeky Scientist Association helped me finally start approaching my job search strategically.

I started a postdoc a few years ago thinking I’d have multiple publications and a professorship. That didn’t happen. I was miserable in my postdoc. I took any sick day I could.  I turned my focus to trying to interview for jobs. It was so uncomfortable. I could barely get a face-to-face interview and when I did, I lacked confidence and had no rapport with hiring managers. I felt as though I wasn’t being taken seriously because my PhD was in Nutrition and not Immunology. I signed up for the Cheeky Scientist Association because of these horrible experiences. I found hope and was able to stop focusing on my problems. As I worked through the modules I didn’t feel as desperate and got my confidence back. I learned to write a resume that listed my strengths and was able to adjust my priorities to really know WHY I was doing what I was doing. The community aspect was a life saver! It was there for me every day. I knew that I wasn’t just some loser PhD in the country. The Cheeky Scientist Association helped me finally start approaching my job search strategically. The program showed me how to communicate my transferable skills, and not just my technical skills. As a result, I got the job I've always wanted.

Marlies Ozias, Ph.D.
Medical Science Liaison at Bristol Myers Squibb

I was amazed at the number of people in the group - 2,000 people overall and 500 people who already have industry jobs. I remember thinking ‘wow, how strong will this community be in the future?’. I knew immediately that my money well spent. There were many other engineers in the program who helped me right away.

I joined the Association because I didn’t have the right mindset. I was uploading resumes but wasn’t networking. I changed to a “nothing-to-lose” mindset. I learned to build rapport and find any connection I could. I reconnected with someone I had TA’d years ago and followed up with him consistently. When there was an opening in Long Island where I lived  he asked if I was still interested. I went and watched the job in action. I started getting much more engaged. The Association made me much more open to ideas. I was amazed at the number of people in the group - 2,000 people overall and 500 people who already have industry jobs. I remember thinking ‘wow, how strong will this community be in the future?’. I knew immediately that my money well spent. There were many other engineers in the program who helped me right away. I started learning how to send emails, using the free scripts, and how to follow up. I started networking on LinkedIn. All of this led to me getting an industry job before graduation.

Yahfi Talukdar, Ph.D.

After I joined Cheeky I saw that everything I was learning was right and it really opened my eyes to how networking is supposed to work and that you don’t really need a letter of recommendation.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I was doing everything wrong. I had personal contacts but I was never following up. I went to career development bosses to get help with my resume but it wasn’t nearly as targeted as my Cheeky resum. I asked how to reach out and network and was told to just send academic papers. That’s when I knew I needed something else. After I joined Cheeky I saw that everything I was learning was right and it really opened my eyes to how networking is supposed to work and that you don’t really need a letter of recommendation. Now when I see a PhD undervaluing themselves it makes me angry and I’m like “Nooooo!

Ann Grosse, Ph.D.

As a social scientist, I wasn't sure if the Association was a good fit for me. I quickly found out it was exactly what I needed to get hired.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association I felt older than my 38 years. I had a PhD in psychology, a postdoc I didn’t really want, and I never felt as though I fit in. I was applying for jobs online without any strategy or networking skills, sending in resumes and not hearing back. As a social scientist, I wasn't sure if the Association was a good fit for me. I quickly found out it was exactly what I needed to get hired. After joining the Association, I poured through all the materials while I graduated, continued my training, and relocated. I loved the transition plan. I learned how to be more polished and started networking. I found the online group invaluable. The group had an overwhelming positive atmosphere which was such a contrast to how dour everyone is in academia. I received extraordinary feedback from people around the world and an international perspective. The responsiveness of the Cheeky Scientist Association's private group was amazing. In the group, I finally found a place where I fit in, with a community of PhD’s that helped me see how my skills can transfer between different industries.

Naomi Knoble, Ph.D.

Overall, the Association provided the structure and organized habits I needed to get hired. It is the perfect program for any engineer.

I was struggling for over a year to get a job in industry without realizing that I was using the wrong workflow for job hunting. I thought all I was supposed to do was write resumes and upload them to job sites. I thought I could easily get a job. Of course, I was wrong and didn't make much progress. Once I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, I learned the correct workflow for getting an industry job. I made large gains and expanded my network significantly. The program gave me individual help, focusing on my specific needs. The program helped me organize all my job search materials and gave me daily action items to follow. The private group was great and provided me with close supervision that was both supportive and highly structured. The group held me accountable and helped me stay on track and make progress. We went over my targeted resumes in real time, they gave me individualized scripts, and I had access to the consultants on a daily basis. Overall, the Association provided the structure and organized habits I needed to get hired. I'm very happy with the result. It is the perfect program for any engineer.

Chingyao Yang, Ph.D.

I enjoyed the online webinars and catalogued interviews, and I really enjoyed hearing the experience that various industry professionals had during their transition from academia into industry.

The content in the Association was very valuable. I enjoyed the online webinars and catalogued interviews, and I really enjoyed hearing the experience that various industry professionals had during their transition from academia into industry. I was also very surprised by how active the private online group was and much great material was shared in it. The group helped me keep refining my job search approach and my message, including my elevator pitch. Most importantly, the Association taught me the importance of networking and following up with ALL of my professional contacts. Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I hadn’t kept in touch with any of my past professional contacts. As soon as I started getting back in touch, things changed. Suddenly, I was going on referrals and getting interviews. Now, I have the industry job I always wanted and am excited for my future.

As a result of joining the CSA, I received numerous interviews and had my pick of job offers from many clients all over the world!

The Cheeky Scientist Association is literally the only training program you need to transition into industry. Before joining the association, I was doing a postdoc in a fantastic lab. . . and hating every minute of it. After nearly a decade on the bench, I loved learning about science, but I hated doing it. I had lost my drive to become a professor (or even do experiments). I felt like I was always trying to push myself into this box of who I was supposed to be (a bench scientist) rather than highlight my unique skills and interests. I knew that I wanted to join the medical communications industry for years, but felt guilty admitting that to my boss, to my colleagues, and even to myself. After I became an associate, my whole world opened up. The transition plan helped me place my goals and dreams into tangible, results-driven actions. The webinars with industry professionals were invaluable. Most importantly, access to the private group with over 500 members gave me the support and confidence that I needed for success. I knew I could ask any question, big or small, and every step of the way there were numerous members who wanted to help. Reading about the successes (and hardships) or other members gave me the energy to push through the job search. Within a few months, I had hiring managers, recruiters, and even C-level executives reaching out to me for advice about their business challenges. As a result of joining the CSA, I received numerous interviews and had my pick of job offers from many clients all over the world! Seeing that I could help many businesses achieve the growth they desired, I founded my own medical consulting company, JLJ consultancy, with clients including Novartis, MyTomorrows, Cactus Communications, Springer Life Sciences, various academic journals, venture capital firms, and more! My future couldn’t be brighter, and I couldn’t be happier! If you’re considering leaving academia for good to follow your dreams…join the cheeky scientist.

The Association was exactly what I needed because it gave me individualized help with PhDs who already had the same type of job I wanted.

My story is like a lot of other Cheeky Scientist Associates in that I spent a lot of time just writing resumes before joining the Association. Becoming an Associate gave me access to all the information I needed to get an industry job. The Association was exactly what I needed because it gave me individualized help with PhDs who already had the same type of job I wanted. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I felt supported. I felt like my specific needs were being addressed. The private group kept me focused and centered one what I needed to do next. The individualized networking scripts and resume fixes shared in the group really helped me too. In fact, I got hired because I applied a private group networking script. The other Associates helped me design better scripts and this time I got a response, built rapport, and added value. Then I had an informational interview and after following up by emails, I got a call two days later to set up an interview. I started getting a lot of interviews and it was nice to have other Associates helping me who, again, already had the same type of job I wanted. Thanks to the Association and the Association's private group in particular, I now have the industry job I want.

Mihaela Marina, Ph.D.

The best part of the Association is that it comes with a readymade network. As soon as I joined, my LinkedIn connections increased drastically and I suddenly had many industry professionals in my network.

Before joining the Cheeky Scientist Association my industry resume was not good. I was also struggling with how to network and how to get referrals when networking. I had worked in academia my whole life and didn’t even have one connection in industry. This all changed when I joined the Association. The best part of the Association is that it comes with a readymade network. As soon as I joined, my LinkedIn connections increased drastically and I suddenly had many industry professionals in my network. I was really surprised with how quickly things started to change after joining. Now that I was an Associate, I was much more confident. HR professionals started reaching out to me too. My biggest “Aha!” moment was when I watched the the Core Training Program webinars on articulating and leveraging transferable skills. Wow, this made all the difference in the world.

Srujana Dusari, Ph.D.

I’m glad I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association when I did because I missed the last enrollment period and didn’t want to wait another 6 months to join.

I’m glad I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association when I did because I missed the last enrollment period and didn’t want to wait another 6 months to join. Once I joined the Association, I was struck by how much I learned from the Core Training Programs right away. My initial resume was a four page mess! It had a really long publication list and the rest of the information was bloated and scattered. Once I applied the Association’s strategies, it was only two pages. That’s when hiring managers and recruiters started actually replying to my messages. I also learned the Association's 3-step technique for following up after an interview. This is what led me to getting the job I have now. Thanks for being there when I needed you Cheeky Scientist Association.

Sally Hassan, Ph.D.
Medical Writer at Envision Pharma Group

The Association taught me how to add value to the people I was reaching out to. They also showed me how to follow up without being annoying.

I was in graduate school for 5 years and did a postdoc for 2 years and that was enough for me. After this time I decided to transition into a non-academic career and started applying to jobs that I though would be a good fit. I applied, applied, and applied but never got anything beyond an automated email response after uploading my resume. My networking was nonexistent. My LinkedIn profile had the bare minimum information on it and whenever I reached out to anyone online I acted desperate and demanding. I’d reach out to someone for the first time and basically say ‘give me a job.’ Needless to say, this didn’t work. After joining the Association, I quickly realized that I was doing EVERYTHING wrong. The Association taught me how to add value to the people I was reaching out to. They also showed me how to follow up without being annoying. The helped me fix my resume and really they helped me fix my entire job search strategy. All of this led to getting a job referral and getting the industry job I’ve always wanted. Life is a lot better after becoming an Associate. The program is something every PhD can benefit from.

Igor Ignatovich, Ph.D.
Principal Microbiologist at Ecolab

The best thing about being an Associate is the private group. You literally get answers to your questions within minutes. No one makes you feel stupid or ignorant, the group is just really supportive and knowledgeable.

I was in academia for so long but now I’m in industry and I love my job! Let me tell you, the Cheeky Scientist Association works. It really works! To start, I didn’t even know what I was doing. But that changed right when I became an Associate. The job search strategy Core Training Program was a game-changer. So was the Resume Workshop and Online Networking Workshop. The best thing about being an Associate is the private group. You literally get answers to your questions within minutes. No one makes you feel stupid or ignorant, the group is just really supportive and knowledgeable. They just always make you feel good and give the best advice. This is especially true when you’re down and you’re like 'Ugh I’m not going to get a job ever.’ The private group keeps you focused, positive, and moving forward. The modular content is great too. Like when I had the interview for this job I just landed. Right before the interview I listened to the Core Training Programs on interviewing and asked the private group for some good questions to ask. In minutes I was prepared with cutting edge information, not just blather on some mediocre website.

I’m just really grateful right now for joining the Association. It’s the reason why I’m finally getting out of industry and about to start my new job as a Research Scientist II.

I’m actually at a get-together celebrating my new industry position as I write this. I’m just really grateful right now for joining the Association. It’s the reason why I’m finally getting out of industry and about to start my new job as a Research Scientist II. Before joining the Association, I didn’t have my house in order, so to speak. That’s the first thing the Association taught me—get your house in order first before inviting people into it. I didn’t have my LinkedIn profile set up or my industry resume formatted properly. So when I would invite new people into my house, they wouldn’t stay. This made networking really hard for me. I also had a very limited academic mindset before joining the Association. But this all changed very quickly after joining. More than anything else, the Association prepared my mind for transitioning into industry. The program and the other members taught me how to be more proactive in my job search, and it paid off big time. My network grew dramatically after joining and I instantly had more industry contact than I knew what to do with. Now I have the job I want and am celebrating.

I used to have less than 100 contacts on LinkedIn. This jumped to more than 500 relevant contacts after I joined the Association.

Before joining as a Cheeky Scientist Associate, I lacked industry experience and contacts. I used to have less than 100 contacts on LinkedIn. This jumped to more than 500 relevant contacts after I joined the Association. Now I was networking with industry professionals and getting referrals online. The Cheeky Scientist Association's materials were very helpful, particularly the video training workshops on advanced networking, resumes, and interview preparation. The Q&A starter guide put me on the right track at the start and the salary negotiation guide helped me finish my job search process with a salary that was thousands more than the initial offer I received. The best part was being able to share all of my experiences and questions with the private group. I learned so much and now I'm in the perfect job.

Before joining the Association I had about two-hundred LinkedIn connections and within a few days after joining I had five-hundred-plus. Now I have thousands.

I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to leave academia some day but I didn’t know how. I knew I wanted something else but didn't know WHAT it was, HOW to get it, or WHERE to get it. I didn’t even know the names of any industry positions. I’d still be looking for names of industry positions if I hadn’t joined the Association! Luckily I joined the Association right before enrollment closed. I had heard from a friend that being an Associate was an amazing experience but I still didn’t know exactly what to expect. After I joined, I realized why the Association is so special. The private group is so incredibly engaged. The counseling you get from the other Associates and Consultants is very detailed and very specific to whatever questions you ask. And the Association is so connected! No matter which company or industry professional you want to connect to, someone in the Association can introduce you. Before joining the Association I had about 250 LinkedIn connections and within a few days after joining I had '500+.' Now I have thousands. Every part of the Association is top end, from the networking scripts, to the example resumes, to the LinkedIn profile Core Training Programs—everything. The Association got me the industry job I wanted and it can do the same for any PhD.

I was looking for an industry job for over a year without any luck. Now, I’m a Medical Science Liaison for a top pharmaceutical company. What happened? I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association.

I was looking for an industry job for over a year without any luck. Now, I’m a Medical Science Liaison for a top pharmaceutical company. What happened? I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association. After joining, I was really impressed with quality of the private group. The amount of support and high-level insights were invaluable to me. I was able to have in depth conversations with other Associates, learning from the resumes they shared and the networking and interviewing experiences they had. I also got to attend live webinars and workshops with top MSLs and other industry professionals. After making a few key changes to my own resume, interview presentation style, and networking strategy, I was suddenly hired. It all happened very quickly after I got my strategy in place. I couldn’t be happier now. I’m finally have the career and life I’ve always wanted.

I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association when I hit a very frustrating low point in my job search and it was the best decision I could have made both personally and professionally!

At the beginning of my graduate studies I already knew that I did not want to stay in academia. I was always drawn to industry because I felt like that’s where I could have the most impact in patients' lives. When it came time to make the transition I was lost, clueless and frustrated with the lack of responses to submitted resumes. I have followed blogs from the Cheeky Scientist for quite some time and have always found them useful and empowering. I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association when I hit a very frustrating low point in my job search and it was the best decision I could have made both personally and professionally! I took every step of the transition plan very seriously and within 2 weeks I gained tremendous knowledge on resume building, interviewing, contacting hiring managers, successfully reaching out to strangers on LinkedIn and gained fantastic self confidence. The Association’s private group has been the most amazing group I’ve ever had the pleasure of belonging to; the amount of support and help between associates is fantastic! I recently landed my dream job at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. as a Drug Evaluation Research Scientist and I know it would not have been possible without the Association! If you are interested in a career in industry, joining the Association is a must! Do not waste any more time!

More than half of graduate students are unemployed at graduation. Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association, I'm not one of them!

Before I became a Cheeky Scientist Associate, I had no idea where to start. I wanted to transition into industry but I didn't know how. I didn't know how to interview or even how to network to get an interview. All of that changed when I joined this brilliant program. The Association helped me understand my options and helped me design a professional path according to my values. All the content and advice I got from the Association's webinars, booklets, group discussions, and emails were of great value. The program also showed me how be more professional during my job search, which really made a difference. One of the biggest things I learned was the importance of creating a professional presence online. This was something that I was previously unaware of. Now, I have a strong professional presence and just got the industry job of my dreams as a Medical Consultant. More than half of graduate students are unemployed at graduation. Thanks to the Cheeky Scientist Association, I'm not one of them!

The Cheeky Scientist Association took me from being very unsure on how to approach my job search to getting a industry position above the one I interviewed for and a correspondingly much bigger salary package.

The Cheeky Scientist Association took me from being very unsure on how to approach my job search to getting a industry position above the one I interviewed for and a correspondingly much bigger salary package. Trust me, the program is worth every penny. The Association takes you through the broad strokes of networking and designing a job search strategy to concrete practical tips like inserting the right result in the right place on your resume and saying “any reasonable offer will be considered” when asked how much you expect to earn during an interview. The resume workshop in particular was a game-changer. The only people that shouldn’t join this programs are PhDs who want to keep procrastinating and making excuses for why they are still stuck in academia.

The Cheeky Scientist Association was an amazing resource for my transition from an academic postdoc to an industry scientist position.

The Cheeky Scientist Association was an amazing resource for my transition from an academic postdoc to an industry scientist. Coming from an interdisciplinary background in engineering and biology I became increasingly frustrated in not being able to use my advanced math skill set in my post-doctoral work. As a postdoc, I also realized that I was at the bottom of the academic food chain and I wanted to change that as well. The first assignment led me to dig deep into my likes, my dislikes and what my core goals were. More than a decade ago I had dreamt of fighting diseases like cancer with a unique background in engineering and biology. CSA helped me regain the grip on my career path and focus on highlighting my unique skill set, the value I bring to the table and honing my business/strategic knowledge needed to be a successful team player in the biotech industry. It was exhausting to try and find the information needed piece by piece online and having a tailored package enabled me to work on my transition WHILE I was in my previous position. CSA is also key in changing your mindset when you approach a new job because a lot of the material is valid for how you need to work to succeed in your industry position. I use a lot of things I learnt from Isaiah and CSA in my work everyday.

Since becoming a Cheeky Scientist Associate, I've been on several interviews and have had numerous recruiters contact me. I recently got the industry job of my dreams and I'm still having recruiters contact me.

Prior to joining the Association, I was a post-doc and working in a lab just like I had been for the last several years. Though I love science I realized that academia was not for me. Since budgets are cut more and more a lot of labs turn into an environment full of fear and jealousy where publications are “produced” under high pressure which has nothing to do with the innovative cool science I would have wanted to be doing. I wanted to move on and do something new but at first I felt stuck and felt like I didn't have any job options or good connections. I realized I needed to change strategies and joined the Association. Since becoming a Cheeky Scientist Associate, I've been on several interviews and have had numerous recruiters contact me. I recently got the industry job of my dreams and I'm still having recruiters contact me. The Cheeky Scientist Association continues to keep me one step ahead in my industry career. I really enjoy interacting with the private online groups and know that I can ask questions and get support whenever I need it. The Association is a great resource for any postdoc, PhD, or Phd student.

As a result of joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I got called into interviews with companies like Roche and Estée Lauder and ended up having my pick of jobs.

Good Answers To Interview Questions | Cheeky Scientist | Klodjan Stafa

The Cheeky Scientist Association completely changed my career and life. Before joining the Association, I was doing a postdoc face-to-face with a dead end. There was no future for me in academia and I had no idea how to do anything else. I knew there were non-academic jobs in the world but I didn’t know how to find them, let alone how to apply to them or get hired. I tried doing things on my own for a long time but kept coming up short. I was too busy and too stressed. This all changed when I joined the Association. I couldn’t believe how much value I received from the program right away. The bimonthly webinars were incredible. The resume and CV training modules made an unbelievable difference. I went from being ignored to having hiring managers and recruiters reaching out to me. Yes, reaching out to me! The best part was the Association’s group was there supporting me every step of the way. I have never, ever seen such a positive group of PhDs together in one place all willing to help each other. Whenever I had a question, it would get answered by 10 people who knew what they were talking about the very same day. As a result of joining the Cheeky Scientist Association, I got called into interviews with companies like Roche and Estée Lauder and ended up having my pick of jobs! Now, I’m a Senior Scientist at Estée Lauder Companies. I couldn’t be happier. If you’re considering a job in industry, join the Association now.

The Association's private online group offers an open, friendly forum where you can feel at ease expressing your concerns.

Similar to many PhDs, I ended up unemployed after graduate school. I felt stuck in so many areas–I didn't know how to network online or offline and I really struggled to get a response back from anyone after sending out my resume. I had no idea what positions were available or where to start in general. This all changed when I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association. The Association showed me how to actively network and build an online presence which greatly increased my visibility and helped me get noticed by companies. I was really impressed with how quickly the Cheeky Scientist team members would get back to me when I had questions. They were very responsive and helpful. The Association”s private online group offers an open, friendly forum where you can feel at ease expressing your thoughts and concerns. Joining the Association showed me that there are a lot of other PhDs who are having trouble transitioning into industry. Most importantly, it showed me how to make this process easier. My favorite part of the Association was learning which industry positions are available and how to best sell myself for these positions. If you don”t know either of these things, you should join this amazing group of professionals right now.

The Cheeky Scientist Association program paid off for me in a big way as I just got hired in industry as Research Scientist III! This would not have been possible without the Association.

I didn't receive much industry training in graduate school or during my postdoc. I was having trouble networking in person or online and was not getting past the interview stage in my job search. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do but I didn't really know which industry positions were available for me or which were a good fit. So I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association. I was hesitant to join at first but am really glad I made a decision to be an Associate. The part of the program that I enjoyed most was the Industry Transition Plan. My perspective and job searched changed completely once I finished my Alignment Table. I also really enjoyed the information from the webinars and the guest speakers. It was great to be able to learn from MBAs and other high level industry executives who had a scientific background and who had experience in big biotech and biopharma companies like Baxter and Johnson & Johnson. The Cheeky Scientist Association program paid off for me in a big way as I just got hired in industry as Research Scientist III! This would not have been possible without the Association. I highly recommend this program to any PhD who wants to transition into industry and doesn't know where to start.

I used the Association’s negotiation strategies and increased my salary 7.5% before starting.

I decided to leave academia because I wanted to have a bigger impact on other people’s lives. I was also tired of the lab politics. If you’re a PhD or PhD student, I’m sure you know what I mean. I wanted to get on a non-academic career path but wasn’t sure how to do it. That’s when I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association. I’m glad I joined because I learned a lot like how to improve my interviewing skills, especially my phone interviewing skills. I learned how to write better, much more targeted cover letters and resumes. I also got the motivation and support I needed to start going to more networking events. Joining the Association really paid off because I ended up getting a referral for my dream job and then a job offer! I used the Association’s negotiation strategies and increased my salary 7.5% before starting. Shortly after working in my first job in industry, I received another offer from an even bigger company. Now, I have a great job as a Scientist at MedImmune. If I went back in time and told myself I would be as happy as I am today, my past self wouldn’t believe me. Things are great and I have the Association to thank.

J. Luis Santos, Ph.D.

The Association gave me great support, also in training me on how to call recruiters and showing me the importance of following up with them frequently.

I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association because I wanted to make a change. I like a lot that the Cheeky Scientist Association encourages and supports us in looking at our long-term success, as in what would really make us happy 5-10 years from now, not just tomorrow or the next day. I learned about the importance of building relationships with recruiters that are well connected. The Association gave me great support, also in training me on how to call recruiters and showing me the importance of following up with them frequently. They also gave me the insights and encouragement I needed to start being very open and transparent with these recruiters, helping me tell them exactly what I want. The Association materials were very helpful to me and I recommend the program to other PhDs looking for a change.

The Association is the only place where PhDs can get proven advice and genuine encouragement for moving forward their careers forward.

After my long academic postdoc, I wanted to transition into industry research, but did not know what type of resume format to use or which skills to highlight. I also knew nothing about how to network. This is why I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association. The webinars on resume writing, LinkedIn strategies, interviewing, and networking were really good and very useful. Most of all, I loved being part of the Cheeky Scientist Association's private group, where you can discuss with other Associates who just gave interviews for industry positions and who just got hired. The Association is the only place where PhDs can get proven advice and genuine encouragement for moving forward their careers forward.

I found the step by step instructions on how to identify the right position for each person and then how to reach it very useful.

Before enrolling in the Cheeky Scientist Association, I knew that I want to work in industry, but I had no idea how to find a job. I was a postdoc with no experience and no plan. The focus of the Cheeky Scientist Association was impressive and I found the step by step instructions on how to identify the right position for each person and then how to reach it very useful. I’m much more confident in my ability to land the position I want now. I also learned that connections are essential and networking is an ongoing process, which has helped me move forward. The biggest improvement I made was in terms of my resume. The resumes I used before joining the Association were really bad; it’s actually embarrassing to look back now. Other aspects I appreciated and utilized were the real world interview questions and related documents, and the webinar Q&A sessions. Thanks to Cheeky Scientist I now have the job I want as a Research Engineer in industry.

I learned to communicate and network better, even as an introvert, in order to make the valuable connections that will help me move forward.

As a postdoc, I knew I wanted to make the transition to industry, but didn’t know exactly how to go about it. My network skills were lacking and I wasn’t sure where to even start looking for positions. The Cheeky Scientist Association showed me that I’m not alone in looking for a position outside of academia. I learned to communicate and network better, even as an introvert, in order to make the valuable connections that will help me move forward.

During every webinar and interview with real people from the industry I had this "Aha!" feeling and became confident that I can do it, too.

Like many others who sign up for the course, I am a postdoc (actually, a "retired postdoc", 7.5 years!). For long time, I've considered moving away from the bench, but I didn’t know where to start. In fact, I felt that I cannot do any good to the world, except for running experiments 🙁 That's why I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association program. And I am so glad I did! During every webinar and interview with real people from the industry I had this "Aha!" feeling and became confident that I can do it, too. I got to know what is available out there and how to network in the right way. I also really appreciate the business, psychology and communication basics woven into the course, which is priceless not only for transitioning into industry, but also for everyday life. All the practical advice and how-to’s are very concrete and you can start using them right away. Finally, the support and motivational atmosphere of the course are so huge, that it's impossible not to succeed 🙂

The dynamics between current members and past Associates was an excellent addition to the course information.

Like many postdocs, I didn’t have much experience with creating a resume or connecting with others in the industry. The Cheeky Scientist Association provided a number of benefits, including information on how the industry works and creating a winning CV. The dynamics between current members and past Associates was an excellent addition to the course information. If you're a postdoc considering transitioning into industry, I recommend you become an Associate.

The advice I was given was real and tangible, from people who are actually working in the industry.

I came into the program not knowing how to network effectively. I’d send out my CV, but not get a response back and needed some help getting started with my job search. The Cheeky Scientist Association taught me to really put myself out there. The advice I was given was real and tangible, from people who are actually working in the industry. The continual feedback was very helpful as I began to put my newfound skills to use. I also found the success stories from other members of the program to be very motivating.

The Cheeky Scientist Association showed me that my PhD is actually an asset when applying for industry positions, as well as how to leverage it.

I was a PhD with no job and no real idea where to find one when I took the course. I hoped I would pick up some tips on transitioning to an industry position that would make me happy, but I found the course was quite a bit more. The Cheeky Scientist Association showed me that my PhD is actually an asset when applying for industry positions, as well as how to leverage it. Throughout the course, I met other scientists in the same position and learned firsthand how to network effectively. Overall, the course was an excellent investment of time and money.

When I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association course, I found it to be very interactive and friendly, with views you won’t find anywhere else in the industry.

I’m a research associate and I was landing interviews for my desired positions. When I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association course, I found it to be very interactive and friendly, with views you won’t find anywhere else in the industry. The most useful thing I learned, however, was to simply avoid people who aren’t supportive of your ideas. This tip, combined with the excellent real life examples from other members, helped me take further steps toward landing my dream job.

Taking the Cheeky Scientist course really opened my eyes to the possibilities available to me, but best of all, I learned how to optimize my networking.

I’m a graduate student and I knew early on that I didn’t want to work in an academic position, but didn’t know where exactly to start. Taking the Cheeky Scientist course really opened my eyes to the possibilities available to me, but best of all, I learned how to optimize my networking, particularly online. This was an area that I lacked in for a long time. I also enjoyed meeting others who were as motivated and enthusiastic as myself.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is your real mentor for finding a job outside academia...the one that you never had during your PhD.

Like a lot of postdocs, I was interested in transitioning into industry but didn't know where to start. I had no idea how to network or how to interview. I kept thinking that things would eventually figure themselves out on their own but they never did. I just kept doing the same thing over and over again. I finally decided to stop fooling myself and get the help I needed. I decided to join the Cheeky Scientist Association. The Cheeky Scientist Association is your real mentor for finding a job outside academia…the one that you never had during your PhD! I was immediately impressed with the program. It gave me everything I needed to succeed. The program was so encouraging that I found myself taking action to build my network and apply to positions right away. The Association showed me where and how to start. It showed me how to write the perfect industry resume and how to create the perfect LinkedIn profile for getting an industry job. First and foremost, the program was designed by scientists and academics like me, meaning they've encountered and studied the same issues as me. They knew exactly what I was up against and exactly how I could succeed to get the industry job I wanted.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is just what I needed to advance in my industry.

Even though I was employed, I simply wasn’t meeting the career benchmarks I set for myself as a PhD. I felt my limited networking abilities were preventing from progressing to the next stage of my career. Then I found the Cheeky Scientist Association and everything fell into place! I immediately connected with the group and, through the insightful seminars, was able to fully realize my professional potential. I learned to transform my academic experience into meaningful abilities, thus communicating more effectively with employers. I learned to imagine more for myself and make the right connections with others to attain it. The Cheeky Scientist Association is just what I needed to advance in my industry.

If there is anything to regret, it’s that I didn’t join the Cheeky Scientist Association earlier.

Sure I was happy to have a job, but as a PhD I was not satisfied with where I was, for me or my family. I felt stagnated, knowing I had so much unused potential to apply in my industry. Time after time, I pursued what appeared to be promising leads only to be left in the lurch and without adequate knowledge on how to improve. It was only through the inspirational people with the Cheeky Scientist Association that I acquired the right tools to realize my true professional strengths. I learned networking and powerful negotiating skills, as well as how to leverage my passion for my career in achieving my true potential. If there is anything to regret, it’s that I didn’t join the Cheeky Scientist Association earlier.

The consultants and many of the other Associates who had already got industry jobs provided me with detailed and specific coaching.

I’m a PhD with a government job but was interested in learning more about industry careers and how to successfully apply for industry jobs. I’d been writing and rewriting my resume and sending it out to dozens of jobs but not ever really getting a response. I had a few interviews but didn’t know how to interview well, so never got past the interview stage. I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association to help me through the job search process. I really enjoyed being taught the basics of resume preparation and networking in a step-by-step manner instead of just being given the basics like most programs do. The biggest advantage of becoming an Associate was getting the full support and advice of the entire Association. The consultants and many of the other Associates who had already got industry jobs provided me with detailed and specific coaching. Being an Associate demands accountability to the group and a positive, action-taking attitude. I’m proud to be a member.

From interviewing tips and making lasting impressions in person through setting up critical social media profiles, I am now armed with absolutely everything I need to forge ahead with my career.

I thought that once I obtained my Postdoc, I would know what to do next, but the beginning of job searching was unbelievably daunting. My extensive academic expertise did not automatically translate into natural job seeking abilities. I didn’t know how to garner the right attention through networking or even which positions I should be aiming for. I was floundering! Until, that is, I connected with the Cheeky Scientist Association. From interviewing tips and making lasting impressions in person through setting up critical social media profiles, I am now armed with absolutely everything I need to forge ahead with my career. I could not do without my fellow Cheeky Scientists.

It wasn’t until I connected with the Cheeky Scientist Associates that I gained an immeasurable amount of guidance and support.

I knew that as I approached graduation, I was going to need help establishing my new career. I had so many obstacles in my way and felt so overwhelmed. How was I going to translate my education and skills onto paper? What key words and job descriptions should I even be targeting? How could I network in person or online when I didn’t even know where to begin? It wasn’t until I connected with the Cheeky Scientist Associates that I gained an immeasurable amount of guidance and support. The quality of the webinars is unsurpassable! The group was and remains with me from beginning to end. I now have a strong network of resources catapulting me forward in my career.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is the most efficient investment PhDs who want to be on top of their game for transitioning into industry can make.

The Cheeky Scientist Association is the most efficient investment PhDs who want to be on top of their game for transitioning into industry can make. I liked feeling welcome and finding people with similar struggles who were also trying to transition into industry. I like getting to know their path and following their progress but most importantly I liked sharing tips and strategies that actually worked and were totally actionable. All of this was much more valuable than just reading another billionth article on the Internet about the importance of networking. The Cheeky Scientist Association is different. You get real advice from real people who went through similar situations and are on a similar path.

The best advice I can give someone like me is don’t waste any time signing up for the Cheeky Scientist Association.

As a senior graduate student spending close to 10 years in academic labs as undergrad, intern, technician and graduate student, I didn’t believe there would be a lot of non-academic, industry jobs available. I wasn’t secure in my ability to effectively network online or in person and genuinely didn’t know the first place to start. What was my PhD even worth? Now, the best advice I can give someone like me is don’t waste any time signing up for the Cheeky Scientist Association. I was incredibly impressed by the high caliber of the webinars and the successful speakers featured in them. The CSA broadened my view, allowing me to be more open-minded to new people and opportunities. I now see much more potential in myself and in my career!

The Association is industry training done intelligently--by academics for academics.

Like so many others, I completed my PhD against the clock. Broke and desperate, I blindly accepted a post-doc position with little regard to what it actually meant or where I was going. Somehow I found myself in a new country, in a new continent, doing the exact same thing I had hated for years before. I was lost. I knew something had to change, but where do you begin? This was when I found Cheeky Scientist. I still remember Isaiah”s first words to me, telling us all that we are not alone, that other people feel this way and that leaving academia does not make you a failure–but should be the best decision you ever make and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life. I came to Cheeky Scientist skeptical. I had suffered through industry training programs before and did not want to repeat the mistake. But the Cheeky Scientist Association is different. The Association is industry training done intelligently–by academics for academics. There is no dumbing down, no talking down and notably absent of fluffy, feel-good motivational quotes too often seen in other industry training programs. The focus on immediately implementable, practical advice combined with references and further reading allows for immediate application and continued fulfillment. The webinars were particularly invaluable and quickly became the highlight of my week, each one was packed with information on building essential business skills and personal confidence.

The Cheeky Scientist Association gave me the confidence I needed to no longer feel worried about my career. The most valuable thing that I learned from the program were the interviewing skills and techniques. There were several webinars and documents that focused specifically on how to get an interview and how to have a successful interview. Overall, the program gave me the industry knowledge and mental support I needed to transition out of academia. If you're looking for proper advice on how to leverage your skills and develop new industry sills, you should definitely join the Cheeky Scientist Association.

It was great to finally be around other PhDs who are willing to succeed outside academia and who aren't afraid to talk about it!

More than anything else the Cheeky Scientist Association taught me that I am worthy of getting a good industry job. It's easy to feel disheartened with the way things are in academia now. A lot of PhDs are either unemployed or accepting less than what they are worth. The Association shows us that this is the wrong way to think. I learned so many great things including how to network and actually get a response back from people and how to improve my resume so that I actually hear back from employers. I really enjoyed getting to know the other Associates. It was great to finally be around other PhDs who are willing to succeed also outside academia, and who aren”t afraid to talk about it! Every member was sincere and made a real effort to share his or her own experiences without being judgmental and without having a negative attitude. The only way to be successful in industry is to surround yourself with likeminded PhDs who want to be successful too. Make sure you don”t miss out on becoming an Associate.

I am NOT a STEM PhD and I was concerned that there wouldn't be much value in the Association for me. But I was wrong.

I'm NOT a STEM PhD and I was concerned that there wouldn't be much value in the Cheeky Scientist Association for me. But I was wrong. As an Associate, I learned how to network properly and how to better spend my time. I also learned about the importance of referrals and was able to get a better sense of what options were available to me. What I enjoyed most about the Association was hearing stories from other PhDs, including what obstacles others are up against and how to overcome those obstacles. My favorite part of the program was being able to grow my network by connecting with the Association”s exclusive group. I got the tools I need to get the industry job I want and am happy I took a risk to join because really there was no risk.

I researched the Cheeky Scientist material on my own and found that mapping out your chosen career path on paper really does clarify and solidify the steps you need to take in order to get there.

I have been to many career workshops but Cheeky Scientist's workshop was one of the best I have ever seen. In general, I've noticed that career development trainers tend to use acronyms and buzzwords, presenting in a way that is a bit too gimmicky and dull (like corny television advertisements). This presentation style results in diluted content and a loss of interest from the audience. Cheeky Scientist's presentation style, on the other hand, was different. The seminar was very energetic and lively; the speaker used concrete examples and personal stories that were very helpful. I really like the fact that the speaker used select words, quotes, and phrases to help us focus on key points. And the way he interacted with and addressed the audience made his presentation much more interesting. One of the lessons that I found most valuable was the importance of identifying your purpose and writing down your goals. I researched the Cheeky Scientist material on my own and found that mapping out your chosen career path on paper really does clarify and solidify the steps you need to take in order to get there.

I highly recommend the Cheeky Scientist community for anyone who wants to turn their career goals into reality.

As a PhD and online business owner, I feel very privileged to be part of the Cheeky Scientist community. The articles and coaching services provided by Cheeky Scientist provide much-needed skills and strategies for academics to turn their ideas into a viable business and generate extra sources of income. Since joining the community I have experienced an incredible boost in the development of my online product for graduate students, as well as an increase in web traffic and subscriber list. I highly recommend the Cheeky Scientist community and coaching services for anyone who wants to turn their career goals into reality, whether they want to start a new business, achieve better work life balance, contribute to their community or have more meaning and purpose in their personal or professional lives.

Cheeky Scientist gave me hope that there are other options and that I can find them.

Recently I had the good fortune of attending Cheeky Scientist’s “Of Science and Strategy” presentation in person. The seminar's whole approach to personal and professional development struck a lot of chords with me. I'm egregiously guilty of the "tactical" approach to life, allowing my big picture goals and dreams to be chronically obscured by the hectic and the immediate. Highlighting this distinction between “tactical” as opposed to “strategic” thinking is so relevant for me, as well as many others like me. Cheeky Scientist really understands how bleak the outlook can seem for career academics who’ve viewed the tenure-track as their only real option. Cheeky Scientist gave me hope that there are other options and that I can find them.

Cheeky Scientist is a source of inspiration and always ready to share their extensive knowledge.

The first time I attended one of Cheeky Scientist's talks I was stunned. The seminar was so engaging that it energized the entire crowd in a way that I've never seen before in academia. It was a very motivating experience for me. Cheeky Scientist's clear way of presenting actionable and relevant content is exceptional. I have not missed a single talk by them in the Boston area since. Cheeky Scientist is a source of inspiration and always ready to share their extensive knowledge - knowledge Cheeky Scientist Consultants gained through first-hand experiences.

Cheeky Scientist taught us how to innovate, differentiate, build solid business connections, and develop our personal brand.

The Cheeky Scientist team came to Harvard to teach us what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and - OH WOW - they were the most inspiring speakers I have ever met. Instead of just harping on the traditional product-then-marketing model, Cheeky Scientist taught us how to innovate, differentiate, build solid business connections, and develop our personal brand. They showed us the importance of sequentially finding your purpose, building a platform around your purpose, and then launching products and services from your platform. The seminar presenters zoomed in to discuss cutting-edge advances in things like email marketing and search engine optimization. They then zoomed out to discuss the importance of staying true to yourself having a strong identity. It goes without saying that we left the lecture hall feeling absolutely empowered and more confident in entrepreneurship than ever before.

Cheeky Scientist has a way for making scientists feel comfortable, surprised, and relieved -- all at the same time.

Cheeky Scientist's candid lecture provided a refreshing reminder of the reasons we’ve all embarked on our own personal journeys. The seminar concisely articulated many of the common pitfalls and short-term rabbit holes that so many of us fall into but find challenging to identify on our own. The seminar also offered concrete suggestions on how to overcome them. Cheeky Scientist has a way for making scientists feel comfortable, surprised, and relieved -- all at the same time.

Cheeky Scientist was exactly what I needed to keep myself on track.

I'm really glad that I went to the Cheeky Scientist seminar because I learned a lot of very useful information. The speaker was very motivational and provided numerous insights that were both scientific and strategic. Most importantly, everything that he presented was practical and highly actionable. One of my favorite things about the seminar was the telling of personal stories. These stories made Cheeky Scientist's content more relatable and helped me see how I could achieve my own goals. I recently left behind a very well paid position in industry where I lead an elite team. I left to return to academia and Cheeky Scientist was exactly what I needed to keep myself on track. I'm grateful for his enthusiastic reminder of the great options I have and the great experiences I have ahead of me.

I have had the opportunity to work with a Cheeky Scientist Consultant over the past year and the experience has been life changing.

The first time I read one of Cheeky Scientist’s posts I was immediately captivated by his message. Cheeky Scientist has a way of delivering ideas that are not only original but also deeply rooted in scientific evidence. The company's one-of-a kind passion towards everything that they do is contagious. I have had the opportunity to work with a Cheeky Scientist Consultant over the past year and the experience has been life changing. The company's consultants have a knack for turning good ideas into great ideas. I am honored to work with Cheeky Scientist. Cheeky Scientist is an excellent resource for academics and biotechnology professionals.

From the moment I started working with Cheeky Scientist, I knew they were different. Within 10 minutes, I realized that they had passion, desire, and determination. But, compared to others who demonstrate these traits, Cheeky Scientist separates themselves by actually taking action. They have a strong vision to help others obtain their goals. Cheeky Scientist is an excellent resource for academics and biotechnology professionals. I highly recommend Cheeky Scientist to individuals who are looking to connect with other intelligent people. To be honest, I doubt the validity of most self-help programs and despise factless, feel-good nonsense. I was surprised to find out that the Cheeky Scientist programs are different. They are different because they're backed by science. I've gone through one of the programs myself and can tell you it's a profoundly developed process that has a remarkable impact on its participants.

Reading Cheeky Scientist's articles has challenged me to act boldly and to unapologetically leverage my strengths. As a scientist in training, I find that these are critical skills for success.

I came across Cheeky Scientist’s blog around the time I began to prepare for my PhD candidacy exam. It was refreshing to finally find a scientist contributing real life skills that can be applied not only to work-related issues but also to relationships and overall personal fulfillment. I find myself reading several of Cheeky Scientist's articles over and over again. I love these articles because they help me keep the right perspective when it comes to conflict. They help me see negative situations as opportunities for growth. Reading Cheeky Scientist's articles has challenged me to act boldly and to unapologetically leverage my strengths. As a scientist in training, I find that these are critical skills for success. Yet, they are rarely taught in classrooms or by professors. Personally, I look forward to receiving Cheeky Scientist's blog articles in my inbox every Monday morning because it empowers me and sets the stage for a productive week.

A room full of postdocs and graduate students were engaged and inspired during Cheeky Scientist's recent talk at MIT.

Dr. Isaiah Hankel is a wonderful speaker. A room full of postdocs and graduate students were engaged and inspired during Cheeky Scientist's recent talk at MIT, “Of Science and Strategy: Setting Goals for Research and for Life.” Dr. Hankel has an original, energetic, and authentic way of combining personal examples, anecdotes, humor, and scientific principles to connect to his audience. This style allowed the audience to see things through a new lens while also allowing them to relate in a very concrete and practical way. Dr. Hankel's own scientific and academic background served as a framework that helped people envision many different possibilities for themselves. Dr. Hankel established an excellent rapport with the audience and was very responsive to their questions, and many stayed after his talk to speak with him.

Cheeky Scientist's guidance has helped me rethink my future goals and also encouraged me to realize these goals.

Recently, I had the good opportunity to attend one of Cheeky Scientist’s “Bridge to Business" seminars. The presentation was funny, friendly, an full of great information. Everything shared was very useful, especially for me. I'm currently at a crossroads of either staying in academia or moving into industry. Cheeky Scientist's presentation helped me peer into the world of business and entrepreneurship. I gained a very practical understanding of what it takes to be successful on the other side. Cheeky Scientist opened my eyes to the possibility of starting my own business, something that I had not considered before. As scientists and industry professionals, Cheeky Scientist's speakers successfully exemplifies that it's possible to use your degree to start up companies both on your own and with other people. Overall, Cheeky Scientist's guidance has helped me rethink my future goals and also encouraged me to realize these goals.

Before I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, the only people I networked with were other PhDs. Once I joined, I learned how to reach out to cold contacts and build a network of industry professionals. The interview information was pivotal to my job search success and the private group provided cutting-edge information that demystified many of my fears about the job application process. I have recommended the CSA to all of my labmates!

Since school left me without any knowledge as to how to create a great resume or even interview, I decided to join CSA to learn how to do these things.

I realized as a graduate student that academia was not the right path for me. Since school left me without any knowledge as to how to create a great resume or even interview, I decided to join CSA to learn how to do these things. Everything from the videos to the webinars was very helpful. I learned to write my resume and polish my LinkedIn page, as well as how to network. In fact, I ended up really enjoying the supportive community. I’m already connecting with people in the industry and expect to get a position soon. This is an excellent course if you’re like me and not sure where to start.

Without this program, it would have taken me a long time to learn everything.

I originally joined CSA because I’m a postdoc with no interest in working in academia. I want an industry position, so the information on creating a great resume, how to network and using online resources like LinkedIn to connect with hiring managers was very useful. Without this program, it would have taken me a long time to learn everything.

Elena Cubedo, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Associate, Florida International University

Through the CSA course, I not only learned how to create a great resume, I also received excellent feedback.

Trying to find an industry job as a postdoc is anything but simple. I had no idea where to start and wasn’t even sure how to write up my resume. Through the CSA course, I not only learned how to create a great resume, I also received excellent feedback through the private group. Perhaps the most useful information was how powerful keywords can be. I would certainly recommend the program.

I was going through a very difficult time in my program. I was full of doubt and uncertainty and these feelings were starting to erode my confidence and energy. That's when I contacted Cheeky Scientist. To my surprise, they got back to me right away.

I've been following Cheeky Scientist for a long time. I love reading the companies articles because they are always very easy to put into action. As a PhD student, I don't have a lot of time for platitudes and empty words. If I'm going to take the time to read content online, it has to be both credible and immediately actionable. Cheeky Scientist's articles are both. Recently, I had the privilege of talking personally with a Cheeky Scientist consultant on the phone. You see, I was going through a very difficult time in my program. I was full of doubt and uncertainty and these feelings were starting to erode my confidence and energy. That's when I contacted Cheeky Scientist. To my surprise, they got back to me right away. After talking with the Cheeky Scientist consultant, I felt great. I felt aligned. More than that, I felt unstoppable. I had a detailed action plan that I could initiate right away.

Meeting and working with Cheeky Scientist has been life-changing. I encourage others to do the same.

colin3-150x150Dr. Hankel is exactly the type of person that every educational institution in the world should employ to teach people the value of their advanced degrees. Since meeting him several months ago, he has taught me to realize exactly what I have achieved throughout the course of my career, as well as where my journey is leading and how to best move forward towards my ultimate goals. Having gone through the process himself, Isaiah understands the hard work and dedication that are necessary to graduate with a Ph.D., M.B.A., M.D., D.M.D., etc. Through Cheeky Scientist, he is therefore committed to empowering those of us that possess these degrees with the ultimate aim of making sure that each of us realizes his/her full potential.
