Valeria Daniele, Data Scientist Intern, Accenture. Note: In September 2017, Valeria transitioned into her current role as Data Scientist for CNH Industrial.
What’s been your biggest learning experience or Ah-Ha moment since transitioning into your new role?
Realizing I can do a job that I enjoy without the frustrations I felt in academia.
How is your current industry position different from your academic postdoc or experience as a graduate student?
I am already considered a professional, even though I am an intern. I am invited daily by my manager to give suggestions about the next steps, and I have the feeling that my opinion is taken into account.
If you could go back in time, to before you received your job offer, and give yourself one piece of advice or encouragement, what would it be?
Don’t think that you’re too old to change careers. Career transitions are normal, it’s just a matter of being patient and proceeding step-by-step.
What was the most memorable moment for you (so far) as a Cheeky Scientist Associate?
Well, I could mention many moments, but probably the most significant one was when I discovered the existence of the Data Scientist profession by reading an article on the CSA blog. So, in a sense, I can say that it is thanks to the Association that I have transitioned into this career ☺
What do you see as the next step in your career?
Career opportunities in my field are abundant, so at this moment, I am still in the process of evaluating which one could be the best fit for me.
Now that you’ve spent some time working in industry, what is the biggest takeaway(s) you’d like to share with those who are still executing their job search?
Stay confident, because you already have the skills to transition ☺
